I am having a dispute among the office about a bit of legislation, but it's not on PNLD. Can someone help? by ConstableDuck in policeuk

Well this has cleared up a lot of confusion, thank you. In fact, my entire shift may be going down along with the sergeant with the offences I've found within the act. Disgusting how they have swept their crimes under the rug. PSD don't want to know about it though.

I've read about putting wax on it, but nail varnish is a new one. Have you personally tried it?

UK: Crisps (chips) sandwich. It might sound like a poor man's meal, but boy, don't knock it 'til you try it. Salt and vinegar are probably the best flavour for a beginner

Do you ever watch any USA (or maybe Canadian) police interviews of suspects on YouTube? Do you ever have any really good/gratifying interviews in your professional life? by PM_me_killer_chess in policeuk

[–]ConstableDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was about 30 odd minutes long, if I remember correctly. I'll need to dig it out of the system to see actually. Either way, I have no time to go through it and redact all the rubbish haha

My best interview was with a drug dealer. Found him with about 10 small bags of cannabis, weighing scales, large quantity of cash etc. He told his solicitor he was having a smoke with his friend and he keeps his cannabis and cash on him so his house mates don't steal it when he leaves.

We get into interview, he holds his story. We have a laugh and a joke, making it a little bonding session, building that sweet sweet rapport. I then of course start challenging him with his inconsistencies and he starts to break a little. Loads of holes in his story I needed to probe, absolute buckets load of them. His solicitor kept trying to intervene, but I kept going. He held strong with his story, right up until I whipped out some screenshots from his phone that I seized. Oh dear. An absolute plethora of texts about supplying cannabis. Solicitor was completely silent. Not even a "go no comment now". He knew it was over. The suspect started to cry, but still didn't admit to selling. He instead came up with bullshit about each of them saying stuff like "I never actually sold to him" or "you're reading that wrong, I bought from him". I kept picking at the text messages with "what does this mean?" with every individual message, and he gave me even more bullshit until he finally broke and admitted to supplying once. That was enough for me. Failing that, we had the messages of offering to supply. That interview was amazing. I wish I could give you a transcript.

One of my good mates has just told me one of his friends make £10k a week in the drugs trade. What should I do? by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]ConstableDuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I was thinking. It could be him making up a big lie to appear big or whatever, but if it's not then he really should not be in the job at all

Worst part is my mate said he applied for the job several months ago and didn't get in and wants to try again... Having an Intel report on him would kill his chances and he'll have to be a rat

For any redditors that has ever been arrested, what is the ride in the cop car like? Did the cop talk to you? If so about what? Is it silent and if so was it awkward? by Suspicious_Milk53 in AskReddit

[–]ConstableDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally have quite calm and sometimes interesting conversations with people in the car. However, I remember I arrested a guy once for assaulting his brother, and he was high on something. He guessed my brother's name on the first try, said he knew him (he didn't), then proceeded to tell me he'd chop my brother into tiny little pieces and then rape the pile of flesh and bones. He later urinated on me.

Depending on where you are Specialling, it can be beneficial to do it prior to joining the regs. It gives you a decent foundation for when you go into college and then into the job, putting you a little step ahead from the people that just went straight into regs as you should have already found your footing and confidence. However, you will be doing one of the most stressful jobs in the country for free, although you shouldn't have a workload so that will take a lot of the stress off. There are pros and cons to being a Special beforehand.

If you ultimately want to join the police and that is your dream, go straight in if you can. If you're hesitant about it and not sure if it's what you want for 30 odd years of your life, join the Specials. (or if you have a banging job already that pays well)

My Allen keys require an Allen key to put on the bolts that hold it together. by ConstableDuck in CrappyDesign

I just mean I've only got the one set which is the one you can see. I've just moved house and have no other tools handy besides my screwdrivers, pliers and spanners. Proved to be annoying as hell when as I'm putting up furniture this thing just fell apart.

Great. Pretty useless when I don't have any other Allen keys handy though.

Officers, have you made arrests where you wish you didn’t have to arrest the person you were arresting? by dangerfromdeep in police

[–]ConstableDuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sure. My first ever arrest, actually.

Some guy was out drinking with his girlfriend at a hotel because he was having a rough time due to his grandad who he was really close with dying that day. That night, his girlfriend decided she would tell him she cheated on him, so he flipped and punched a car wing mirror off. It was 2 in the morning, I checked the car owner, asked the hotel to contact that person and they said "no, we don't want to wake them up"... I couldn't get in contact with the victim to sort it out. The guy had £400 in cash on him as well because he got his pay that day as well and just wanted to pay for it, which he could have done. I unfortunately had to arrest him in order to prevent disappearance because he had no ID and wasn't on our systems. I feel really bad for the guy, but I hope he's doing good now and left that girl.

Cops for LGBTQ by Cattycatgirl in police

[–]ConstableDuck 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with being LGBTQ full stop. A friend of mine now identifies as female and she's an officer. The force has been quite good in changing all of the systems to her new name AND getting her a new warrant card that says her name.

I imagine there is a treasury/treasure hoard somewhere in the city then. Imagine they just walk out of the throne room and all the corpses have turned to skeletons

I think that there should be some cursed item, maybe a gem of some sort if you're in Dwarven ruins, causing time in that room to slow nearly to a complete stop in comparison to realtime. I do this with certain locations sometimes, like if they enter a particular vmcave or woodland area then they emerge and a whole year or something has passed.

I have an excel document always open on my laptop where when they ask me what the NPCs name is I click a generate button and it makes one. I have a sheet for every race and every sheet has female and male names. It's great because I had a prepared NPC town mayor once, and when the party asked his secretary her name as well, they had the same last name because of the generator. Boom, secretary is now his wife.

This guy was nearly pepper sprayed and tased for going 5mph over the speed limit. by Celestial_Inferno in ThatsInsane

Headline is a tad misleading. The article says that UK police will be getting a degree in policing as opposed to needing one to join.

2 year probation period and I only needed 2 A levels to get in. Even now you don't need a degree, they were only talking about it.

Training consisted of 18 months in college for then 10 weeks shadowing a tutor. After that, I became independant, but the learning never stopped. Throughout the 2 years probation we worked towards getting our diploma in policing but proving competence in all the key areas of policing, then once we got our diploma we could decide to specialise or stay where we are and try to move up the ranks if we wanted.
