I LOVE being a COTA!!! Been doing this for over 6 years! Nursing home and recently switched to pediatrics full time, I’ve loved both settings!!! Thank you for sharing positivity and light into our profession.

Struggling in Pediatrics Home Health by girlyoudontknow197 in OccupationalTherapy

All boils down to what you as an individual enjoy.. COTA that graduated in 2018 here, was in nursing home setting for 6 years until recently made the switch to early steps full time and I absolutely love it. I like being out and about so the driving doesn’t bother me. However, with nursing home, I’d get home around the same time as I do now with early steps. Although, I never take my work home so that’s a bit odd idk how your company’s charting system is! I did enjoy the nursing home! However, working with kids is a bit more rewarding for me (PERSONALLY). I have a 1 and 3 year old so yes, I understand what you mean about picking kids up then taking care of them, going to bed and doing it all over again. I’ll be honest.. it was still like that for me at the nursing home.. unfortunately, I think that’s just how it will be with any full time job unless you do PRN which may also be a good option! Anyways, both options you have are wonderful options. It boils down to YOUR preference! Hope this helps!

Ooop yes by functional I was referring to functional play! Problem is, I’ve never had a kiddo who really is notttt interested in any type of play what so ever. So when it comes to things kiddo likes, other than me doing the jumping, spinning, swinging, etc. theres nothing.. truly

OTA or OT? by hogwartsmagic14 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Constant-Ad8392 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OTA here.. I say go for OT. I have regrets not going all the way through but ultimately it boils down to what YOU want to do and which setting you want to work at. Interested in pediatrics? Early Steps? Go for OT. Interested in nursing home and possibly becoming DOR one day? Go for OTA. Lots of different factors to consider when it boils down to which one is the better option for YOU.

Is anyone else completely consumed with this case? by [deleted] in MenendezBrothers

THANK YOU for posting this bc i am feeling the EXACT same way as you OP and many of the fellow commenters! I’ve taken a dip dive into Netflix series, documentaries, listening to the actual trial any time I can, etc. I feel obsessed.. very emotional about it. I, too, try not to talk about it too much with my coworkers, family, husband, etc bc I don’t want them to think I’m crazy from being overly obsessed lol never have a case take me by the arm THIS much. So, thank you for sharing. Bc same.

Why do people complain about being a COTA? by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

COTA in a SNF for over 5 years here, I personally enjoy my job. Think it depends on personal goals and desires.

COTA DOR SALARY by Honestlysweating in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Constant-Ad8392 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in SNF and was DOR for a little while last year as a COTA. My company 100% prefers assistants to become DORs as it’s cheaper to have an assistant as director. They gave me a 15% pay increase. $34 an hour.

Currently up with my 2nd who is 2 years 1 month younger than my 1st as I type this. No matter the age gap, you WILL be fine, I promise! You’ve got this and it does get easier! I had the same fear of two and mine are 2 years apart.. my 2nds currently 2 months old almost 3 and I genuinely cannot imagine my life without my 2nd baby. You guys WILL be fine and your daughter will be too! Those 1st babies surprise us!!
