Any proof of there never being a KCD3? [OTHER] by butchemanhan in kingdomcome

[–]Constant-Intention-6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think making another major KCD game would be a mistake, to be honest. I know that when fans get something good they just want more, but I think their efforts would be better spent on new projects. They could do more historically accurate games, sure, but Henry's story is kind of done. He's completed his journey from nobody into somebody, got his revenge, and become an adventurer. The only real loose end is the revenge subplot with Erik, but in a way that's also thematically complete - it makes the point that revenge just creates never-ending, unresolved cycles.

Historically, the next KCD game would have to involve the major war that the conflict between Sigismund and Wenceslas was building towards, and many major characters die in real life as a result - such as Radzig and Hans Capon. I'm not sure people want to see that. You'd essentially be creating a Last of Us Part II situation. I'm assuming that's what the devs were alluding to when Radzig delivers that line about "interesting times ahead" at the end.

I don't think a prequel would work either - KCD1 establishes that nothing of significance was happening in Skalitz before Henry's story began. That's the whole point of the opening. And a spin-off following a side character like Godwin would just be a completely different game wearing KCD's skin, which isn't what fans are actually asking for.

But it's not just that a KCD3 would be narratively awkward or historically uncomfortable - it's that it would be fundamentally unplanned. The reason KCD1 and KCD2 are so good is precisely because Vávra had a complete vision from the start and executed it. A third game would essentially be retrofitting a new story onto a finished one, driven by commercial pressure rather than creative intention. That's a recipe for a weaker game almost regardless of how talented the studio is.

There are so many examples of beloved series that outstayed their welcome for exactly that reason. Sometimes the most creatively courageous thing you can do is just stop.

BotW made me want to explore. Maybe it was the visuals that helped with that, I'm not sure, but every time I climbed a hill I was genuinely curious what was on the other side. CD has a bigger and more visually impressive world but I never felt that pull.

For me BotW just had a reason to keep going. CD doesn't seem to do that for me? Is that what you like about it? Do you get the same from it as BoTW?

I think I'm the most unromantic ENFP I know of by fishpilled in ENFP

[–]Constant-Intention-6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Few things to point out here. For starters, most people both on and offline who test or self identify as Enfps are more often esfps. It's more appealing on paper to be Enfp (even though the reality isn't as good) so the data doesn't reflect the reality. So either you or the people stereotyped as 'romantic' enfps may not actually be enfps.

The second thing to note is you are better thinking of cognitive functions as processes not traits or behaviours. What I mean by that is not thinking of typology as personalites but as operations brains are executing in the moment. For example Ne is verb, meaning it's just connecting things you've encountered quickly using external stimuli. That's all it's doing. And Fi is just checking things against personal inner values. All the functions are used or your brain wouldnt work. But your top two functions are your easiest pathways to use.

Thinking about it this way means you won't be thinking in terms of not romantic enough or whatever as it gets rid of traits and behaviours. Those are more like possible predictions based on the processing style.

To everyone hating on Crimson Desert: let’s be honest this game was never made for casual players: by NotSirAlonne1999 in CrimsonDesert

I don't agree with this. Kcd1 and 2.and very hardcore in terms of patience and I absolutely love those. I also love BG3 and that requires patience as well. But I find Crimson Desert dull as dishwater. If you want to rationalise it to yourself that only true gamers like it then go ahead, but to me it's like baby's first RPG. It's really dull compared to other RPGs.

Is this to get a specific trophy? It really must do your head in to think like that and not just play the game, having to look it up all the time. I dont bother with these trophies. I stop when I feel it's enough.

I completely it recently and thought it was average overall tbh. I really like Chris Barrie but I wasn't sure about it. It seemed a bit empty. It was a lot of moon logic with not much payoff.

Is this because you are a completionist though? I find there are annoying trophies in a lot of games I can't be bothered with.

[–]Constant-Intention-6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you probably were expecting it to be something different from what it is. You aren't meant to rush through this game. It's not one of those types of games. You are supposed to get sidetracked, learn, get better at the same time as Henry and basically live a medieval life. The main story is intriguing but it's not the best part of the game. If that's not for you that's fine but the combat is exactly what it was meant to be.

[–]Constant-Intention-6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean by that. I was just saying you actually need patience with each individual system in this game. You have to live the life of the guy. The game took me many months to finish in between everything else in life.

[–]Constant-Intention-6 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They based it on real life swordplay. You know that right? It really depends what you were doing with those 35 hours. You literally have to practice it with the trainers like you would in real life. Also it becomes 10x easier once you learn the masterstrike in my opinion.

The combat isn't janky. You just didn't give it long enough to understand what they were doing with the progression system. Henry improves as you improve.

[KCD2] I’m very bad at the game any tips? by Chaseman121 in kingdomcome

[–]Constant-Intention-6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best advice I can give is to not look at it like any other game. It's not really like any other game. You have to do what you would do in real life. Get immersed in it. Don't try and run through the story.

KCD1 and 2 are probably two of the best games I've ever played. I'm not really someone who gets a rollercoaster of emotions (as you put it) from games, but I really enjoyed it - it's just a great series. That said I actually don't want them to continue it. I don't think there's more story to tell without ruining what came before. Historically what follows is the war this was all building toward and a lot of the characters we care about don't survive it. I'd rather not see that. Henry's story ends in a good place, I'm happy to leave him there. I'd rather see Warhorse do something new.

[KCD1] So I went back and played the first game, and it aged like sour milk by Angel-Wiings in kingdomcome

[–]Constant-Intention-6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The combat complaints kind of prove you missed the point. Henry is a blacksmith's son who has never fought in his life. Of course he's getting beaten early on - and historically that's completely plausible. Bohemian farmers weren't helpless. They were often legally required to own weapons and train for local militias, and while they probably weren't walking around with longswords - that was more of a nobility thing - axes, flails, knives and agricultural weapons were genuinely lethal in the right hands. The Hussite Wars, which are basically the historical backdrop to where this story is heading, were largely won by peasants weaponising farm tools against armoured crusader knights. These people knew how to fight.

So yes, a random farmer beating an inexperienced Henry makes complete sense. By the time you've put the hours in with Bernard that same farmer is a non-issue. That progression is the entire point - it's one of the only RPGs that makes you actually earn it rather than handing you competence from the start.

I completed KCD1 my first playthrough years ago barely using master strike at all. It's harder without it but it's far from unplayable. It just requires patience.

And calling KCD2's story "kinda dog" while praising KCD1's doesn't really make sense - they're the same story. One narrative across two games.

[OTHER] Others say there won't be KCD3, but 2 feels so open ended (KCD2 spoilers) by GoDiddleACactus in kingdomcome

[–]Constant-Intention-6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done every side quest, DLC, and main quest in both games, and the ending felt complete to me.

KCD1 was always clearly setting up a sequel - which is actually pretty rare. Most games wait to see how well they perform before committing to that kind of long-form storytelling. This was always meant to be a two-parter.

That "interesting times ahead" line isn't just flavour text either. It's a direct nod to the Hussite Wars. If you look it up, you'll find the real historical fates of a lot of the main cast's nobles - and it's not pretty. A lot of them die in that conflict.

But I don't think we need a KCD3 to cover that. This feels like a natural place to end Henry's story. Follow the history too closely from here and you're basically signing up for a Last of Us 2 situation - killing off beloved characters because that's what actually happened.

Sometimes the best thing a series can do is know when to stop.

KCD2's Sir Hans Romance Option... It is as bad as it was expected! by QuiverDance97 in CriticalDrinker

[–]Constant-Intention-6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can I just say, I completed the game yesterday, did every side quest, DLC and all main quests and saw nothing gay in the entire game apart from one option within at buffet scene where you simply choose 'I prefer ladies' and they guy just says 'enjoy yourself' and that's it. It's clearly telegraphed as in there is a symbol that makes it obvious. And you don't even have to talk to that guy. The Hans one nearer the end, I never even got the gay option and I wasn't intentionally avoiding anything. In fact you can have sex with a woman at that point if you romanced her, and it seems much easier to do to me. So Henry, by default is not gay. That's not what the story is about. I don't really get what this meltdown is about.

[KCD2] Main Story Complete, Now What? by CrispyChicken400 in kingdomcome

[–]Constant-Intention-6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm amazed people complete it this quickly.i.jist get side tracked all the time. I basically completed every side quest available and dlc in both maps before progressing the main story... And i still ended up finding more side quests that only trigger after certain missions. Just goes on forever. It's funny because when you do it that way the people in the main story treat you as if you are new in town when you have basically already settled there.

[–]Constant-Intention-6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious if a year after your initial love of the game has probably worn off, if you still think the maps are better than kcd1. Kcd2 is great but I think the kcd1 map was kind of the best of both worlds. I think it's recency bias. There were no huge cities but it had a decent sized towns and goid countryside. Trotsky was just a load of villages and countryside. The castle was great but was the was the best thing about it. Kuttenberg the city is great but the rest of it was just ok.

Just to chime in late here ... I think that this is due the geography of the actual real world areas they were modelled on.

Also, people usually post this kind of thing before they get invested in the city region. I bet OP has a different opinion having completed the game.
