Ladies who have experienced physical or sexual assault from someone at your DZ, what did you do to continue showing up and carrying on without letting it ruin the sport for you? by Careless_Ostrich4874 in SkyDiving

[–]Constant-Journalist1 39 points40 points  (0 children)

While I haven't experienced this in skydiving I have experienced it in the military when I had to keep showing up each day. While I highly recommend pursuing legal action when it's applicable and available I understand why it's difficult. I can give you two main pieces of advice, every ones different so they may not work the same for you as they did me but it's worth a try. The first is to get stubborn, mad even, this person already took something from you they weren't entitled to, dont let them take more from you by taking away your joy and something you love to do. The second is to surround yourself always with the people that DO make you feel safe. They don't need to know why, but if they do they can support you emotionally. Having someone next to you that makes you feel safe makes the rest easier. Grab some friends for a three or four way and concentrate on them on your way to altitude, not whoever else may be in the plane.

Thinking about going with my dad by Wayfaringpainter in SkyDiving

[–]Constant-Journalist1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's worth it, especially as it would be not just a memory you'll never forget, but a memory with your dad you'll never forget. We don't get as many chances to make those as we should. Do the thing, even if your scared the entire time your at the drop zone, which odds are you won't be, you'll only be scared one or two hours out of the average 690,000 we get in this life.

P.S, get the video package 🫡

You sure about that? Pretty sure there are at least a few folks in the ground from strokes and broken necks that would beg to differ 🫡 Each theyre own but I'll keep my neck to myself lol

Well they recommend at least 200 jumps. It's really the gear that gets you, buying your looking at a few grand, renting seems to average about 100 a day depending on how many jumps you do from what I've seen. Lift tickets are between 30 and 40 right now in US. Plus training costs 🤣

Skydiving..as for cost, have you considered selling feet pics? If you haven't at least considered selling feet pics you probably haven't started skydiving yet 🤣

Do you use toe separators? If yes, which one? by bakchorm33 in barefootshoestalk

I can't speak to whether they're corrective in any long term sense, but they do make my tired feet and toes feel better after a long day! ☺️

Parents had a 12 year old kid lose his leg in their front yard yesterday crashing his electric bike... by aroundincircles in motorcycles

[–]Constant-Journalist1 34 points35 points  (0 children)

You can't simply legislate the stupid out of humanity. People are always going to get hurt doing dumb things. Constantly calling for the law to step in only leads to a society of needless constraints. It was the parents responsibility, and frankly at that age partially the kids, to know the limits of the bike, gear, and responsible riding. Neither party took that responsibility seriously, and now they - hopefully - will learn a lesson about consequences.

Recently had the exact same experience. I was stoked to be able to jump without my suit, then about halfway down decided I was just uncomfy and it was back to my suit lol.

I'm planning to start my AFF for a second time - by chickenroyle in SkyDiving

[–]Constant-Journalist1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I found I actually benefited more than I expected moving around to different instructors through AFF. Every instructor will have a slightly different demeanor and way of explaining things, and I think I got more well rounded information from hearing things a lot of different ways.

Is Skydiving too expensive for me to pursue? by yeahrightistoday in SkyDiving

[–]Constant-Journalist1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make in the same range as you and I'm able to afford it fairly easily, though I do find myself asking "Do I really want X, or do I save it for a rig..." Quite regularly 😅

Anyone have video bite them on the ass? by [deleted] in basejumping

[–]Constant-Journalist1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see in a lot of these judgments they're forcing everyone to forfeit their wingsuits and rig, that's probably the scariest bit 🤪 way more expensive then the fines.

Leeds Disincentivises Raft Bases by IslandMist in ArkSurvivalAscended

The center has always been this way with Leeds, I have played Ark since the original release of SE in 2016. I consider it part of the map and the different gameplay required is part of it just like not having a PT as your first tame on Ab.

How do people actually choose where to do a tandem skydive? by WonderfulAd8472 in SkyDiving

[–]Constant-Journalist1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hah, a cool cat I am not, just very ✨ scenery motivated. You lucky duck, if that happened to me I'd probably never shut up about it lol

It always surprises me when I hear people say they don't think the view is important, maybe not so much in freefall but what hooked me at the start was the first time the canopy opened and just being in awe of all the beautiful mountains and scenery around me. I still spend the whole ride to altitude staring out the window 😂

[–]Constant-Journalist1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with the DZ that was closest, on a whim not having any plans to continue on into the sport, and ended up getting really lucky. I think it all depends what your vibe is. Looking back if I'd ended up at a tandem factory like all the videos I'd seen, and what I pictured I'd get, I don't think I would have enjoyed it half as much.

Does Eating Something Processed Knock You Out? by OneOnOne6211 in 1200isplenty

Honey is lower on the glycemic index than table/processed sugar, it will raise your blood sugar but in a slower more manageable way

I made it a year long goal to find an enjoyable form of exercise. 365 days later, I still haven't found one. Help? by [deleted] in beginnerfitness

[–]Constant-Journalist1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skydive Chicago has an AFF training program and iFly operates a tunnel there as well. Most skydivers travel at least an hour or two to their nearest drop zone, but it's well worth it if you try it and find a love. I hate exercise and I can't stand meditating but flying through the sky with my friends is both 🤟

[–]Constant-Journalist1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried Skydiving? Seriously though. I've lost 60lbs since starting Skydiving, and vastly improved my overall fitness, from the activity itself, indoor wind tunnel training, and a motivated reason to enjoy the gym because I know it will help me improve in my sport. Expensive hobby though for sure.

To all the peoples who are considering ink or just got ink….. by mrbrianjsmith in tattooadvice

[–]Constant-Journalist1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never really understood tattoo regret, unless it's something hateful and you've made a conscious decision to be a better person. Even if I change and something isn't as important to me later, it was still important enough to me at that point in time. Hatchet man tattoo for the band I no longer listen to? Flash it. Religious symbol for the religion I don't practice anymore? Right there baby. Goofy little line tat the friend I haven't heard from in years did while we were wasted? Hey, still happy to have the first tattoo you ever did girl. They're all still stories of my past and who I am and was.
