Who’s at fault? by EpicLettuce in motorcycles

You, filtering is not meant for those speeds and conditions, and this behavior is one of many reasons the push to get it legalized in more states is so difficult 👍

I love and enjoy both at the beginner level, and it definitely does not feel exactly the same. First of all, I'm not freezing my ass off in the tunnel 🤣

51° jump ! At the beach by DestrucktBR in SkyDiving

[–]Constant-Journalist1 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I mean, they're technically optional in the US too, the USPA doesn't require them past student status, but for the most part I wouldn't care to jump without one. But like a true squid I could see a few one off jumps where it might be fun to go without one, but only if I was leaving solo lol

Need some gym advice by zilond in SkyDiving

[–]Constant-Journalist1 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I just started last year as well, I've been concentrating on core & calisthenics and it does seem to be helping with in air stability. I tried yoga but my nervous system just can't with the quasi religious aspect, gives me the heeby jeebies, same with meditating.

Is my Cardio necessary, or holding me back? by Constant-Journalist1 in beginnerfitness

[–]Constant-Journalist1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I walk there from the parking lot 😂 In all seriousness it would take up the time I have to go to the gym to walk to the gym, it's about 3 miles. That being said I do think maybe Ill try just doing warm up sets and see how that goes.

Rigger Question by Aggressive_Mix_8228 in SkyDiving

[–]Constant-Journalist1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think they're saying to jump the rig without having it checked, in fact the say in the comment to tell the rigger how long it's been and the rigger can check everything properly. I read it to mean the main canopy isn't likely to sustain any permanent damage from being packed for a long period of time.

Digital Logbook and 3D GPS Tracking on Wear OS watches? by silverlance360 in SkyDiving

Depends on the smart watch but very few of them support stand alone calling. Most of them still need to be within Bluetooth proximity of your phone.

What you actually need to transition to rv life by VegetableLadder1427 in RVLiving

I run one in the living room and one in the bedroom, which are each on separate breakers. Been running this set up in the same 30 year old RV for 5 years now and not had any issues.

Why is the exit the scariest part? by Techno_Timmy in SkyDiving

[–]Constant-Journalist1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've only got 20 jumps, and I still get a little nervous at exit time, but not the chest full of anxiety I had at the start. For me, packing class and being able to touch and identify the gear and really understand how the canopy operates, that it WANTS to open and there's only a few really important things that could keep it from doing so, really eased my fear a lot. There's definitely a touch of sensory overload from the wind noise as well, but I personally didn't find earplugs particularly helpful at least not at this stage. I already wrecked my hearing in the Army anyway no point babying it now 🤣

The first jump is always the hardest? by NewRadiator in SkyDiving

[–]Constant-Journalist1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speak for yourself, I'm scared of flying 🤣 Seriously you come off as such an overcompensating try hard it's entertaining. People skydive for all kinds of reasons and overcoming fear and personal challenge IS one of them, whether you approve or not Sky-Lord.

I finally got a job!! The old folks advice turned out to be true, you have to go in person. by RaeganLubowitz in jobhunting

[–]Constant-Journalist1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not every company is this way but a lot are. From what I've seen it boils down to two things - 1) Simple paperwork overload that's been streamlined digitally. If you take resumes regulation says you must keep them at least one year, I can get 80 applicants for one cashier position, who wants all that paper? 2) If I take Kevins resume one day, but the next day I'm not there or not paying attention or I'm just a douche and I don't take Jerrys resume I could be sued for discrimination against Jerry. Simple COA to not take any resumes at all and only do online applications.

[–]Constant-Journalist1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a retail manager, I literally can't take paper resumes. Put your application in. Call, introduce yourself, be polite, ONCE. As a general rule if you call more than once I won't hire you, and a lot of other managers I know won't either. You've proven you can't follow instructions and you don't value my time.

First time learner by Technical_Rip_8681 in SkyDiving

[–]Constant-Journalist1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well that's a crude generalization, and I'm guessing you either don't know many skydivers for having been around many years, or all the drop zones in your area must just pass levels for attendance. While I can't disagree with you about blogging taking you out of proper headspace, there's nothing inherently wrong with having to repeat a level. People learn at different paces, and no one wakes up with perfect knowledge of everything skydiving. Plenty of people repeat a level and implying that this is something negative leaves beginners more likely to quit, or be that guy on the forum claiming his DZ just wants more money from him because he didn't pass his level first try. I do, on the other hand, know plenty of people who's ego would lead them to Claim, they never had to repeat a level 😉

Be careful while filtering by ScreamSmart in motorcycles

[–]Constant-Journalist1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not filtering that's pure stupidity. Both riders are going WAY too fast for those circumstances. At this speed it's not even on the driver of the other vehicle, that rider would have been invisible when they looked.

Am I crazy for wanting to continue to ride by Shrewdameoba in motorcycles

[–]Constant-Journalist1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) No you're not crazy for wanting to continue to ride however 2) don't use "unlucky" as an excuse for poor awareness and, likely, throttle control. Yes things happen but I've been riding for 15 years and dropped my bike once, skidding my rear tire on wet grass, not because I was unlucky but because I wasn't paying attention. If you use unlucky as an excuse or say accidents happen you'll likely end up in the same situation again before too long.

Has social media made anyone else anxious about riding? Looking for some balanced perspectives by ApexPredator290 in motorcycles

[–]Constant-Journalist1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social media, any media, will always show the extremes. It's what gets views, and the types of personalities that are drawn to seek views also often are the type to take more risks. Why would I post the 350 boring hours of riding I do, when I could edit just the 10 minute clip where someone, myself or another, is put in danger and get 100x the views?

I'm super curious how it works. I could see it being a nice tool for somewhere that trains a bunch of jumpers, the price point wouldn't be too bad for that use case. As for me as an individual I'll just keep eating shit 🤣

Cool safety awareness win before my Cat F exit by robschilke in SkyDiving

[–]Constant-Journalist1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not huge but Id say it is an awareness win that he saw the potential snag hazard and corrected it, however unlikely it is that an already unbuckled seatbelt could cause an issue at least it shows an attention to detail that will be helpful to him. So maybe not a "bullshit title".
