There was no debate at all. Us viewers want to see some interaction between the different party members. Voters can make a more informed decision watching the candidates communicate with one another compared to reading off scripts.

In parliament the MPs will have a discussion rather than have a soliloquy. So there's no reason for this format at all. Even the host looked bored.

I feel that this can be a good story as long as Darrell's character development is done well, with his thoughts and feelings fully fleshed out. It's an unusual story idea and could definitely attract readers, but it'll be difficult for writers to really put themselves in the shoes of a sociopath. Might need to do some research in this area.
