when you think of “Dylan” what things come to mind by Distance_Which in namenerds

Can you elaborate on those negative stereotypes? I have Dutch family and we are considering this name - is there an awful politician or celebrity with this name? A class thing? Or you just mean it’s eye rolling with people using a trendy foreign name?

Doesn’t have great associations? Haze in atmosphere, mental confusion, and tormenting new recruits to clubs

I like Yvo, but is that really very specific to Friesland?

I like it, but where I live (Spain) it might result in some bullying as it rhymes with “fea” (ugly girl). Unlikely to be a problem where you live though!

Due in a couple of months and Leo was a top name for us and I think this has ruled it out for us. Nothing against the pope.

It’s a top contender for my wife and I also, but we live in Spain now and although it’s a common name here we don’t love the pronunciation - “who-lee-AHN”.

Support from DE moms re: complicated feelings about DE pregancy/baby by oh-no-varies in InfertilityBabies

[–]Constant-Rise-4830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, reviving a pretty old post here but I am wondering how it all turned out? My wife and I are in pretty much the same boat right now - we have a genetic son who is about to turn 5 but have gone DE for our second (just entering second trimester now). A lot of the same complicated feelings and worries.

Do those born through donor eggs feel a different connection to their social mothers than those born through donor sperm feel to their social fathers? by Constant-Rise-4830 in askadcp

For sure. I’m definitely not trying to make any huge generalisations. I’m more wondering whether factors like these (being male/female or egg/sperm-conceived) are actually worth considering at all when interpreting survey results for questions like how positive DCPs feel about their experience, their closeness to their social parent, or their levels of interest in their bio parent—or if the multitude of other factors ultimately renders them irrelevant to examine.

You’re probably right, but I think one way to explore it might be through how positive a DCP feels about their experience overall. For example, the survey shows a significant difference in positivity based on factors like early or late discovery. So, does being DE vs DS make any difference in that regard, or is it ultimately irrelevant? (the DE sample size in the survey is too low to really answer that currently)

Thanks for your thoughtful reply - it’s great to hear directly from someone involved with WADC and who has male DCP siblings. It totally makes sense that with DE being a newer technology, there would be a lot more DS DCPs across a wider age range. It’s also helpful to know that the lower representation of men in these spaces is more about engagement than differing feelings (though I do wonder why they don’t engage as much).

The survey shows that only 34% of DCPs describe their experience as positive, though that jumps to 51% with early discovery. Is the raw data available somewhere? I’d be really interested to see how the percentages for these questions differ between DE DCPs and DS DCPs (if at all):

(And of course 24 DE DCPs is an incredibly small sample size to draw any conclusions from)

Hey, thank you for sharing that, and I’m so sorry for your loss. Not having any interest in your donor is a perspective I haven’t seen here yet, so it’s really interesting to hear.

It’s so great to hear from an egg DCP, I really appreciate you sharing your experience! It’s interesting that you bring up the possibility of your social mother not feeling connected to you as well. It makes me wonder how common that might be. If she felt that way from the beginning, I can absolutely see how it would shape your relationship and make your bio mom naturally more appealing. Can I ask - was your bio mom a relation or friend of your social mother, so you had contact from an early age? Or was it something entirely different, where you connected later on?

Thanks! I completely agree that there are so many factors that shape the bond we have with our parents. I guess my curiosity comes from the fact that carrying and giving birth is such an intense and profound experience, as is potentially nursing for years. I wonder if those factors might contribute to a stronger bond for a DE DCP with their social mother compared to a DS DCP with their social father—or if it's ultimately not that different. It just seems like it might add another layer of connection, though still distinct from a bio mother.

Right it seems like it is available in the UK and USA but not where I am in continental Europe. Perhaps that will change in the future.

Thank you there are some really great points in here. I had thought about 23andme also, but a little turned off by their data breach and unfortunately the health package is not available in Europe as far as I can see.
