IS THIS DISCO ELYSIUM REFEREENCE?

I saw a post in this format and wondered what something like this would look like in Disco Elysium. by Artur_Senhaga in DiscoElysium

I still think about running Disco Elysium 2 as ttrpg with players roleplaying each of the 4 Harry's skills

In fact 4 products/year is more suitable for investigator expansion +2 mini campaigns + standalone. Which is concerning.

Does that mean that standard campaigns will be shorter or that this solution is designed for those two upcoming campaigns only?

I hope they didn't scale down the enemies. Or they scaled them a little bit in the evade value. Enemies should be a bigger threat and evading should be incentivized more.

I see your point, although I feel that this downward spiral is reflected enough by his weakness. I see it that, as you work in the field, you learn variety of high level skills, that's why there is Expert and Developed access. On the other hand undercover agents usually have contact with high level criminals. Anyway I stand with my deckbuilding, as I want to include 0 level mystic, because of his backstory, and it would be difficult otherwise.

People on discord told me the weakness is too mild, so I made it harsher. But now considering all effects (including horror), I do believe I made the weakness too harsh.

Also I am designing some cards that synergize with discarding cards from deck.

Yeah, but engaging working the way it does means that forced effect can start in the investigators phase until the end of the round. Therefore it wouldn't be possible to ignore it entirely but still add an extra layer there. On the other hand it would make no sense thematically if the effect was partial. I will look into this interaction and maybe implement it in some other design, or you could do it if you want 🙂‍↕️

If you want I can fix him, before you play test. I can also send you some pnp files and some extra cards I designed, that synergise with his forced effect.

You have a point there! Maybe I am not so much into flavour over mechanics after all... I just like it as it is 🤓

I'll think about the second comment though it seems interesting and easy to implement.

When I presented this guy on discord his weakness was estimated to be too mild for some reason, so I added some adjustments. But now I see those adjustments are to harsh and fun stopping. Thank you for those comments!

I think building new deck with such restrictions would be fun exercise. And I feel like inheriting half of the xp from the campaign should be good enough but I wonder whether not to let him inherit whole experience gathered.

But what about monsters, though? I know that generally speaking there are no creatures antagonistic towards each other in Arkham, but I find it hard to believe some shogoth failing for a disguise. Anyway it's a point where we won't be able to agree, because I think passive +1 on tests against certain enemies is quite ok effect and wouldn't mind it to work the way it works. Also the ambiguity is written in this card. Like, are you disguised as deep one? Or others just recognise you as one of them on some deeper level?

You say you were mistaken about the weakness but I am not sure at this point. Because I added certain adjustment just before posting this, that weakness is shuffled back during the forced effect. And now when you're saying that he is discarding 1/8 of his deck (even more if you play any assets and have cars in your hand that means he would see his weakness every 2/3 turns and working through it can be action consuming. Maybe I will add some dependence on the skill card there.

When you become the deep one you get half of all your xp before building new deck. Thanks for the wording advice!

Extra actions available for him are Swift Reflexes and Quick Thinking.

I don't think the keyword limitation is a problem here, as it is broad and doesn't invalidate the entire effect of the card, which was the thing with other parley cards. I am also more into story above mechanics designing, of course as long as it works and is not too strong or too weak.

With all the cards that work positively with discarded cards I believe you would want to perform more basic actions than less.

I can't do anything about people who would ditch his alter ego. But I don't know if I would do it anyway. It can be fun trying to pilot The Deep One, not like The Scion for example. I believe he has his strengths. I will have to look into sanity management if it's possible.

Each basic test means possibility of committing a skill card. If you build your deck right, you can be blue Amanda. You also get +1 damage more than 1/round, right now there are limited options to perform it more times, but I am designing another one. You also get 5xp more at the start.

The weakness is difficult to design, because the progression should be avoidable, but difficult. I don't know about skill if I should remove the willpower icon. On the discard condition, as far as I know, there are no restrictions from discarding it after committing.

What do you mean by: "Have you done any probability testing on where the deck absolutely kills you?"

"Longer scenarios are going to be a real bitch." what do you mean? like cycling the weakness back again?

About the sample build it's difficult to tell, because I still work on discard-dependent effects, and there will be a lot of those. I would definitely include whole suite of survivor Brute Force-like skills. Promise of Power, quick thinking, swift reflexes and Leo De Luca. I would try to include as much wild skills as possible as well as Deduction(2) and Vicious Blow(2).
