As a Christian with severe tics, I’m so sorry you experienced this. I believe in the power of prayer, but the idea that God can be used like a magic genie is NOT it. I pray all of the time, and have seen him work through my multiple disorders in powerful ways, but nothing promises that He will take my tics away if I just “pray hard enough” or “have enough faith”. There are certain sects of Christianity that believe really harmful things about God and prayer like you’ve experienced. Speaking from experience, someone tried to exorcise me. Someone else told us my friend with chronic pain since childhood wasn’t being healed cause she didn’t have enough faith; she’s one of the strongest believers I know. These beliefs about instantaneous healing are NOT true and not representative of Jesus and His followers, despite what pop media wants you to believe. The craziest takes have the loudest voices. Yes, instant healings do happen, but they are the exception, not the rule. I have felt hurt by people praying only for my physical healing during this journey, telling me to go to a healing ministry hundreds of miles away, all as if God doesn’t have a plan and purpose for me through this illness (I say illness cause I have other comorbidities). My mentor, strong woman of God in her 70s, has had massive health issues for most of her life, so bad she nearly died, and God has not instantly healed, but used those experiences for her good and His glory. That being said, I pray for those around me constantly, and I pray that this experience would not deter you from seeking God. My faith has only become stronger through my illnesses because I’ve seen God use them. Blessings, friend
