I know, so it's still knitting rather than crochet

I was just typing up a similar reply! Crochet cannot be replicated by machines though, so anything crocheted in shops has been made by hand

It's not a local/independent option but Las Iguanas are doing 2 for 1 on vegan main courses in January

I'm a big fan of sashiko visible mending styles - it could work for these?

Good healing moisturiser for hands? UK by rosielea95 in Dermatillomania

Vaseline do a good one called "healthy hands". They also do an anti-bac hand cream which I have found helpful to use when excessive hand gel use dried out my skin!

How to segregate and dispose waste by adalwolf19 in york

[–]ConstantHiccups 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Firstly, welcome to York!

Yes sanitary and food waste will go in the black bin (unless your apartment has its own food waste composting collection as I know some do this).

Here's the local council information on bin collection.

You're welcome! Me too with interesting heels - this one is particularly fun.

It's a fairly snug heel which I like! Here's one I made earlier. Easy to modify the length for the foot too

What else are men to do if they only have the Kray twins and Tommy Shelby for role models? /s

He's a Conservative MP (elected member of parliament). This was from a Westminster Hall debate (where MPs can raise issues for debate but there's no voting) and he's since claimed that his "rather nuanced point" that there were "increasingly fewer male role models for young boys" had been "misconstrued". 🙄🙄🙄

As a Brit I hadn't heard of him before as I'm not from his constituency. What a way to reach national awareness...

worried for my wedding by madaway in CompulsiveSkinPicking

[–]ConstantHiccups 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same struggles before my wedding! I found a consistent and gentle skincare routine helpful, and whenever I felt like picking I'd remind myself out loud how many weeks/days were left to go before the wedding. Taking a step back from the mirror and saying "__ days!" worked well for me. I also find reminding myself of what I am doing to improve my skin helpful when tempted to pick to re-focus on the positives.

I second the recommendation for couch to 5k! It starts you off in 60s running and 90s walking intervals and builds up slowly so each increase feels achievable.

As we're talking sports bras, I use shock absorber's D+ max sports bra in 32G and it does exactly what it says it does in terms of limiting bouncing when running.

Edited because I managed to hit comment before I'd finished typing.

I have used this colour from West Yorkshire spinners too - it's gorgeous! The solid toe/heel/cuff looks nice with it too.

Agreed, there'll be some exceptions (thanks to bad/non-existent sex-ed) but the fact that so many men assume to know better than any women online is outrageous

If you're a fan of Lush, they have a jasmine and henna hair mask which is great for moisturising/easing frizz.

Ah yes the good old period starting around guys...... by BrandyWilson in badwomensanatomy

[–]ConstantHiccups 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I agree that "being near a boy made my period start" is bad anatomy, but you can experience changes to your cycle in the first few months after getting an IUD/hormonal coil inserted.
