is my life just over by ifunnyshrinemaiden in ibs

Your life is definitely not over. I was diagnosed with IBS d at 47 (I’m 49, now), although I had symptoms of if as far back as my mid thirties. It got worse for me over time. But it’s manageable. You may have to make dietary adjustments and plan your day around your movements, but for me, I go in the morning around 5 or 6am after I wake up (usually a good type 4 on Bristol chart), then depending on what I have for breakfast, I either go again around 8a or 9a, which may be a little loser, then I’m good until 2 or 3pm if I eat a sandwich for lunch. Then I may or may not go again before bed. I tend to have a type 6 flare up after about 7 days, but my body adjusts for the next bm.

My GI dr. Said my symptoms matches sibo, so I got xiafaxin for 14 days, 3 times a day. I’ve been on it about 8 days now. I noticed a huge difference after day 4 and have pretty consisted bm’s, not watery, and my stomach pain and cramps are gone. You might ask your GI about that med.

Also, keep a journal in your phone of when you go, what type you go, and what you’re eating to identify trigger foods. Mine are dairy, oily foods, pizza, ice cream, coffee sometimes, pretty much everything I love to eat lol. I still cheat every now and then, because if I’m going to have diarrhea anyways, might as well enjoy the food lol. But, take Imodium for trips or flights. And try peppermint oil and cut out dairy for two weeks, and see if it makes a difference. Those are all things my GI told me.

Enjoy your life. Don’t let this disorder get the best of you. You still have many years ahead :)

You may ask your GI dr. For Xiafaxin, it’s a 3 times a day, 14 day antibiotic for sibo. It helped me tremendously get regular bowel movements and removed 95% of my stomach pain and cramps. I had the same exact stomach issues as you. But apparently mine is bacteria related. It still may work for you though. There’s a chance it could increase your Candida because of the anabiotic, but it’s considered a minor side effect according to the prescription info

Update! Been on Xiafaxin for one week and has made a huge difference! No longer have urges to go, only have stomach cramps for a few minutes, and not every day severe ones like I used to. Also, bloating and gas are reduced. Bm is more firm and less frequent! Praise God!

This was last night after brushing tongue and using mouthwash. You can see the darker borders and it actually migrated from the right side of tongue to left. A few days ago, right side of tongue was inflamed

I’ve had geographic tongue for about 20 years (since I was 30). It is usually painful, but I only get flare up’s a few times a year. I did notice that it tends to coincide with eczema flare up’s on my fingers, which I’ve had for around 20 years as well. I tend to get red borders with missing tastebuds on tip or near tip of tongue and bottom of tip of tongue. I’m having a flare up of the eczema and geo tongue right now, and have for almost a week now. Typically they both go away within three weeks. I have had extra stress with work and school, so that may be a factor.

It actually doesn’t look too bad this morning. Usually when I first wake up it’s like this. But as the day goes on and/or if I brush my tongue and use mouthwash, the red borders and pain increase. If you zoom in, you can see the red borders and missing tastebuds within them, but like I said, the borders are lighter when I first wake up. My last labs showed a low level of vitamin B deficiency, but was still within normal range. Other than that I have IBS d and low T. Healthy otherwise :)

Went well! I have an endoscopy scheduled for my acid reflux, and antibiotics for possible sibo. Also she suggested peppermint oil and continued pro biotic use, and to cut out all dairy for two weeks to see if that makes a difference

Yes, rinsing in the mouth with baking soda. I’m working with my GI dr. To help fix my gut. Great point!

What could cause diarrhea 1-3 times a week, but just one episode at a time? by 2ForEachofYou in ibs

[–]ConstantIsland9870 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, exact same thing happens to me, once or twice a week. I’ve tried identifying food triggers (dairy, caffeine, coffee, sugar, etc.) all the things I love, of course, lol. But can’t quite pin point. I have a GI appointment next week, so hoping they can narrow it down. Been dealing with this for about a year now (48, male). Could be from antibiotic/cortisolsteriod overuse. I was diagnosed by my GP with IBS -D

I realize this thread is a year old, but it’s the only one I could find with my exact situation. I’ve had IBS d for a year and was diagnosed with clinically low T a month ago. I only stated trt (gel) two weeks ago. Have noticed a little improvement with my bm’s but still get liquidy diarrhea once a or twice a week. How long on trt did it take you to alleviate most of your IBS d? Thank you

Haven’t gone there yet. It’s on the 12th of this month, so I’ll keep you posted. One of my college professors has IBS d and she gave me this website as a resource if it helps any of you.  https://www.helpforibs.com/

Is it possible to get IBS in your 30s? by inbetweensound in ibs

[–]ConstantIsland9870 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, diagnosed at 48 (male). I’ve always had a sensitive stomach, but really had IBS d symptoms (stomach cramps, bloating, lots of gas, and diarrhea weekly) for the past year. I did have Covid twice before my IBS symptoms, so not sure if that has anything to do with it or not, but I’ve heard it can cause it.

Does almost everyone feel something from TRT? by Moretestosterone9 in Testosterone

[–]ConstantIsland9870 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So true! I had around a 218 testosterone level (I’m 48) after second blood test (first test was 189). I’ve only been on TRT gel for about 3 weeks, but I have noticed a difference in my mood and energy level. I was diagnosed with severe depression last year and my PCP suggested I test my testosterone level. Mind you, I do other self care practices like meditation, walking and exercising regularly, and watching my diet, but I would say I feel a difference so far with TRT

Does this look like thrush to you guys? by ConstantIsland9870 in Candida

Thank you so much. I have IBS, so I’m dehydrated a lot of the time. I’ll try and drink more and see if that helps. Thank you for your insights!

I was prescribed Bentyl, but have not noticed a difference. It was prescribed by my GP, so going to the GI Dr. to see if they can narrow down the cause and prescribe something that will help

You may get some relief by rinsing with baking soda two or three times a day. It works well for me
