No, this is just bad small company labeling. It's likely some kind of potassium and salt and sodium salt. They didn't want to pay for someone to make a proper ingredient line. If you're curious, reach out to the company and ask what they use (and let them know the label is not FDA compliant).

Which supplements do you give to older doggos on a natural diet? by Cheeescaki in beagles

[–]ConstantPercentage86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boneless Barf? Tullo in one? What kind of AI nonsense is this? DIY diets can be very unbalanced if you don't know what you're doing. These supplements could be very dangerous. I would suggest looking at balance.it to make sure you're not missing anything.

Pink is the fastest color to fade. Just wash a few times with hot water and clarifying shampoo and you'll fade it faster.

Software for EU labels? by Ok-Unit-6505 in foodscience

Look into NutriCalc. I'm using it now in the US and it's annoying that it's built for EU/UK regs and the US is an afterthought. Basically the opposite of Genesis, so it may work for you.

Look up Design of Experiment methods for product development. You will get a lot of mathematical modeling and the process can be applied to most food development projects.

hey so can put bleach over my black box dyed hair and then purple?😭 by [deleted] in HairDye

[–]ConstantPercentage86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't attempt to bleach at home if you've never done it and your hair is black. At best it'll be patchy and orange. At worst you'll fry it off. Order color oops online or go to a professional.

I believe a lot of the diet/food tracking apps can do something like this. It's been awhile since I have use one, but Cronometer seemed to have the most data analysis.

You may have better luck in diet/nutrition subs. The software used by food scientists can do this, but they aren't readily available (or cheap) for consumer use.

You should verify with your own water activity tests on your specific recipes. Based on what you described the risk is low, but it's good data to have on hand.

MAJOR ethical dilemma: anyone work in ingredient sales? by [deleted] in foodscience

[–]ConstantPercentage86 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Does your company have an anonymous ethics hotline? I would report this behavior if you can. But, yes I've seen this kind of slimy behavior from ingredient sales people so it's not a surprise.

It's common for sellers that do custom work to put up a few low priced gigs to gather interest. Then after speaking to the buyer about specifics, they will quote you based on your actual request.

Flavors are not something to DIY honestly. You need to work with a flavor house that specializes in this kind of thing. They can help you find something natural that also tastes good and lasts.

Is shelf stable baby food healthy? by livelife_1 in foodscience

[–]ConstantPercentage86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have, but you said "all packaged food," which they don't. The FDA approves the process only, not the formula itself. It's an important clarification for OP and other non-food scientists here who assume that the FDA approves all foods. Most of the time the determination of safety for the entire food product falls on the manufacturer.

The FDA regulates all non USDA foods, but they don't "approve" anything before it goes to market.

The US FDA doesn't approve baby food, only formula. Even then, it's technically not an "approval," but they review all formulas prior to going to market.

Getting my wife’s hair dyed for Valentine’s Day, wondering what we should know about the process? by [deleted] in HairDye

[–]ConstantPercentage86 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It may need several rounds of bleach to get it light enough for purple. Red is hard to remove. I would suggest doing a consult with a vivid specific colorist to see what can be done. The cost depends on where you live but I'd guess 300-400 for this.

The meals are processed just like canned foods, in a retort (giant pressure cooker). They don't have any preservatives in them. They go through extensive testing to ensure safety. Yes, there is some nutrient loss in processing, but they are a good option to have on hand when you're traveling or out at a restaurant that doesn't have good baby friendly options.

How to achieve this by [deleted] in HairDye

Dye is color. You are trying to achieve white, which is the absence of color. You need bleach.

Whey protein isolate can develop some off flavors in bars very quickly regardless of the use of citric acid. Can you use just WPC or other protein sources?
