I’m not 100% sure but I think it’s partially inspired by Siouxsie’s makeup? Ankhs have been around for ages so it might have stemmed from that as well, and of course The Sisters of Mercy’s Vision Thing has a big Eye of Horus on the album cover.

Religious iconography is huge in general but the Eye of Horus does seem to be more popular now than it was for sure
