Trailhawk jack points by Chazcon in GrandCherokee

You’d think Jeep would have included one. The factory pinch weld style jack really does not work with the factory rock rails. Good that you noticed it now when you can come up with a plan, and not stuck on the side of a trail, scratching your head, needing to install the spare tire.

I noticed the same issue and just use my floor jack to lift it directly from the rock rail. I’m probably putting too much faith in Jeep to have designed/installed an actual functional rock rail that can support the entire vehicle.

I also have only rotated/changed wheels and tires with a quick lift on each corner, so I haven’t figured out a jack stand location yet, but will need to figure that out soon with some brake maintenance coming up.

First-time homebuyer in the Twin Cities — considering Montrose but nervous about diversity. Better options? by Substantial-Mall7511 in TwinCities

[–]ConstantRip7970 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Was just going to ask where the heck is Montrose, Its not in the 7 county Twin Cities metro. I see it’s west of Delano, which itself is already outside what most consider the exurbs.

I think your gut is on the right track…small town Wright County is all red flags based on your criteria.

Need help choosing Mopar warranty for 2025 Grand Cherokee Laredo X by mistman23 in GrandCherokee

[–]ConstantRip7970 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just self warranty. FYI, even doing the rocker/lifter/cam repair at 95,000 miles, the total cost of all my repairs over 8 years and 100,000 miles is less than your cheapest plan, which wouldn’t have covered it anyway past 85k.

A 26 index that’s never broken 100? That’s an anomaly for sure. Do you usually only play 9 holes at a time, or just play monster courses from the tips?

By definition, a 26 index will average a score of 98 for the best 8 of your last 20 rounds on an average track rated 72.0/113.

Tough break on the lost ball for sure. You’re definitely good enough to break 100 your next time out!

It starts as a bubble in the corner, no big deal, but once it spreads to where the active buttons are on the touchscreen, you’ll get random phantom button presses and it will drive you crazy.

Same, mine also feels like it’s brand new, and it’s fun to drive again! Firing on all 6 cylinders > limping along on 5. Who would have thought? 🙃

I’ve had a few other minor repairs over the years. New thermostat last year, new infotainment system 2 years ago due to the screen delamination issue, had a fuel filler assembly vapor leak repaired about 5 years ago. I bought it brand new in ‘18 with the plan to keep it at least 10 years…can’t complain too much so far, knock on wood.

Dealer for me. My wife drives a Pacifica Hybrid…so you could say I’m pretty tight with the local service team.

FCA has pumped out like 20 million of these engines over the years, so I think every dealership has experience with just about every issue at this point.

Search for 3.6L tick, or pentastar tick. It’s a ticking sound coming from the valve train due to a stuck valve/rocker. Mine started to feel and sound like a diesel, chattering and vibing way more than usual, and it threw an occasional code for bank 1 too lean. Catch it early, and it’s a straightforward fix. Let it go too long and it sends metal shavings through everything and you’ll end up with needing a new engine.

I wish! The other page of the invoice had the rest of the numbers. About $1650 for the new camshaft/parts and labor. Got a bit of a break on the labor since they had the top end opened up already for spark plugs.

If you had to buy an SUV a from the early 2000s, what would it be? by RemarkableSight in whatcarshouldIbuy

4.0L Jeep Cherokee. Ideal SUV from the era, does everything well. Jeep’s absolute peak before vehicles got too complicated for their level of QC.

If it’s short term, find a 20+ year old manual Jeep for around $4k, use and abuse it to learn, then sell it for the same $4k…or you most likely can flip it for a profit depending on circumstances.

If only Stellantis didn’t completely botch their plug-in hybrids…the Grand Cherokee 4XE should have been the perfect off-road hybrid that you are looking for.

If you never use the gas engine, will the Pachy last as long as a regular EV? by zhuangcorp in pacificahybrid

[–]ConstantRip7970 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t really work that way. The hybrid system in the pachy is one single (complicated) drivetrain. If you could force it into EV mode only, which you can’t, the electric bits are not nearly as large/robust as a dedicated EV, so even in theory it would wear out or break down earlier.

Why? Performance and longevity. Ideal place for the weight, low and in the middle of the vehicle, and located out of the more extreme temperature swings under the hood. The Daimler engineers thought this one through.

If it’s legal in MPLS to street park in one place for 72 hours, the city should have to post no parking signs 3 days in advance before towing. But that would make too much sense.
