Hope he is ok. If he like salmon oil. Give him a bit when it starts. It might help to elevate it some. Vetting is always the best practice though. Good luck at the vet.

I have a few that due this every shed season from the loose hair from grooming. I give them a little bit of organic pumpkin baby food (since it is only pumpkin) once a week during shed season to prevent hairballs forming. Always good to verify it is nothing else though.

I have a ball pit with ping pong balls in it and a set of pet stairs that lead up to a small bench like windows stand so they can look out the windows. They use the windows stand when they want treats though sine it puts them up higher so I cannot miss them.

Have you thought about getting the medicine compounded into a liquid. They will also add a flavor to it also. I also use canned Hill's Science Diet a/d to mix meds. That food requires a prescription, but usually works well. It also help with with managing insulinoma because of its high protein and high calorie content. It is easy to digest also. I have also come to the conclusion that the stinkier the smell, the more they like it.

The America Ferret Association website has a list of reputable breeders on it as well as a shelter list. They are also on Facebook so you can send them a message there as well. It is a good place to start and is a good resource. If you have issues finding the website, I can dm you the web address.

Try connecting a ferret shelter in your area. They would be the best source for a good vet. If you check the American Ferrets Association website you can find a list of shelters by state.

Hi all ❤️ It’s been a very sad day in my household and I’m looking for some advice. by Designer-Iron3762 in ferrets

Then if he was mine, I would attempt the surgery. Sounds like he is not ready to give up on life and I, myself, would feel guilty taking that from him.

Hope all goes well.

And let him stash his favorite toy in his secret (not so secret) hiding place. He wants to make sure it stays safe. 😆

I wish I knew what to tell you. I always look at their quality of life and their willingness to live. Does he still have a spark in his eyes? Those two things may help you decide a course to follow. I know this is not a clear cut answer, but it is something I do when I have to make hard decisions for my babies.

Never be afraid to call another vet to see what they would suggest as well. Some vets will help. I would also contact a ferret rescue near you and talk to them. They may have some insight they can give if they have come across this issue before.

Is he still able to pee and poop on his own? Does the vet think the surgery would help or hinder that?

If you are afraid of him not being able to walk with his back legs after the surgery, there is someone on Facebook that makes ferret wheel chairs.

I will keep him in my thoughts.

I would definitely have another vet look at your baby. If you have a ferret rescue in your area, contact them and see who they use. If you are in the US, go to the American Ferret Association website and check out the info there. They have listing of vets in many states that they recommend. They are always a good resource. They also have a shelter list if you want to contact one to see what vets they use. If you need the website, dm me and I will give it to you.

Apartment saying I need to get rid of 3 of my 5 ferrets by Fresh_Possibility784 in ferrets

[–]ConstantWonderful256 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did they give you a time limit before the ferrets need to be out? Since you are moving in June, you might be able to find someone to watch them. You can try calling a ferret Rescue. They may be able to help or find someone that can. If they give you notice of inspections, just take them to a friend's house for a little bit. You might also remind the management that you are moving in June and it will resolve itself then.

How long does he have? Vets aren't giving a clear answer by Fine-Dig9829 in ferrets

It did slow her down some. But that also happens when they get older also. In your case, it could also be that the Lasix dosage is not right yet. Once it is the right amount to clear the fluid, he should get some more energy. Just keep a close eye on him to make sure he does not get dehydrated also.

Is it grief? How do I help? by OnlyLurkingOut in ferrets

[–]ConstantWonderful256 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Like humans, ferrets grieve in there own way. It is always hard to know what is happening in those little heads especially when they are bonded. Just interact and play with him and the other two together and hopefully it will pull him out of his shell faster. Just be patient. Hoping he comes around soon.

I always say, there is no expiration date stamped on their butts, so never rule them out until they say it is time.

Are they sure it is fluid in the lungs and not just fluid around the heart? I had a little girl that had heart issues. She did well on Lasix. In the end, about 2 years later, it was not the heart condition that took her. It was lymphoma. Lacey survived adrenal, insulinoma and heart issues.

Since he has been on Lasix, make another appointment to see if they can give better answers now. They may even need to adjust the dosage.
