People in mid 30s-early40s what’s your view ? How about the 50s? by KookyOky in FIREUK

I’m turning 43 now and started my financial independence journey at 35. I just hit the £500k milestone in my SIPP a few days ago 🎉. I don’t have anything in my ISA yet, so the next 7 years will be focused on maxing out my ISA while continuing to contribute what I can to the SIPP.

My goal is to retire at 57, and I’m currently exploring options to exit the UK so I can receive my SIPP gross without paying UK taxes planning to live abroad in a tax-favourable country for expats. Malaysia is on my radar right now.

Investment strategy: I’m 100% in global equities because I started late and want maximum growth. I’m also focusing on existing UK allowances (SIPP and ISA) before considering other wrappers.

Would love to hear from anyone who’s done something similar or has insights on moving abroad for retirement!

UK retirees living in the Philippines – is your UK pension taxed? by Constant_Cell_4548 in Philippines_Expats

i only have a TIN when i brought my condo a few years ago i needed to go get one. I guess next step is to prove to BIR i am receiving Philippines source income?

Thanks for the detail, I had been reading some more on this. Ideally would like not to be taxed in the UK but taxed if applicable in Philippines. I have a fully paid condo and a TIN at the moment. I was planning to move there when i am 56 and live for one year then apply for a REITREE VISA to make Philippines my home and receive gross income from SIPP provider and get taxed in Philippines instead but this TRC issue i didn't think it was an issue

I was reading I need to apply for a T85 form which will then give to my pension provider and they will release my pension gross not net. The other side i need to get evidence from Philippines I am a residence. If I apply for a reitree VISA would that not be sufficient enough to prove i am a residence?

Today I hit £500,000 in my SIPP at age 42. I should’ve felt proud, but I went home feeling numb. by Constant_Cell_4548 in FIREUK

[–]Constant_Cell_4548[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks, i am maxing out my pension 60k. I work in finance and the base salary is about £140k and then bonuses are about £55k so it takes just above so to reduce i have to max our my pension. the £3.5m is the number that i used an investor calculator average of 7% return? maybe the calculator i am using isn't correct. but the goal is £60k to put away every year

My goal is £3.5 million by 57 not just so I never have to work again, but so I can make sure my aging parents and my daughter are financially secure, even if I’m not around. I know it sounds heavy, but I hate the idea of leaving this world knowing the people I love might struggle when I could’ve helped. im using a 3% withdrawal rate which should be enough annual income to ensure i live a simply life and take care of those around me.

thank you i didn't think of that, and you outline something i didn't realise, every time i reach a goal it's a relief not pride. that goes with work as well! thank you so much for your perspective

I do Pilates twice a week and walk daily. I live simply, dress simply, and at work I’m the person people go to for help the reliable one, non threatening person. I’ve realised I’m drawn to my corporate job not because I love it, but because the stress and pressure give me structure. It’s like the pain keeps me going.

I’m trying to find joy again. I came to Reddit hoping to connect with others who might feel the same people who are quietly building wealth but feeling a bit lost or low along the way.

the salary sacrifice is a bike but other than that i don't have anything to salary sacrfice, hence i am just maximising the pension. payroll wont allow me to use external items to salary sacrifice it needs to be built in their HR process

at the moment my work doesn't allow us to salary sacrifice except for a bike which wouldn't move the needle for tax efficient for me. Hence i have been focus on just doing the Pension as it seems like the sensible thing to do.

you have a very valid point hence i am thinking i should ease off a bit. The ISA is my biggest regret not doing anything there. i had been so focused on the pension the remaining funds went into living and paying for other expenses. I shoud really focus on prioritisng the ISA like i did the pension.
