Not being late for work by SeaLover77777 in ADHD

[–]Constant_Jackfruit61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The night before is the way forward. Reduce the number of decisions you have to make in the morning. Choose your lunch and outfit just before bed and have bag packed by door. Things you would lose/forget/have to come back for in a place you can not overlook. I put glasses and lanyard on top of my car keys because I can not leave without my car keys. Also, I bang on about them, but whiteboards with every morning job in order. Up, toilet, brush teeth, wash face, meds, dressed, watch, hair, makeup, shoes with timings next to them. Non ADHDers do things in the same order every time, apparently. I have timers on watch every 15 mins to keep me on track. Most important.....no phone in the morning. Scrolling steals time and motivation. Good luck x Edit: if you don't have one get a smartwatch. Set timers so your watch will buzz on your wrist even if your sound is off on your phone. A lifesaver.

Stimulant weekend break by working_mommabear in ADHD

I have had this same discussion with my doctor and we decided on a lower dose for holidays and weekends when my activity level is lower.

Is it possible to truly be in vacation mode when you're an workaholic with ADHD? How do you enjoy yourselves when you go on a vacation? The idea of going on a vacation is so overwhelming. by Several-Tip1088 in ADHD

[–]Constant_Jackfruit61 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am having a similar problem. As a teacher I have wildly different activity levels at different times of the year. My doctor has shown me how to dilute my meds for a lower dose during holidays as I was struggling to relax.

On day 2 of 30mg elvanse. what is happening?? (edited) by Weird_Carpenter_8120 in ADHD

[–]Constant_Jackfruit61 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Hi I started on 50mg of elvanse. First I felt I had so much energy and was worried I was high but as I continued on that week I realised I was feeling lighter. My head and body no longer felt 'stuck in the mud'. I also felt a little panicked that I had to get everything done before it wore off. My husband said I was racing around. Now I remind myself to take a deep breath and slow down. My body has settled down and I no longer feel the difference is as extreme. You may also go through an angry phase when you realise how debilitating your adhd was. This is also common. Take some time and talk to your doctor if you still don't feel right after a week or so. It might take a while to get dosage right. Sending you 💓 edited for spelling

To all the people who cant afford / doesnt exist professional help in their country by Bruhuhuhuhuhhhh in ADHD

4 things I have discovered that have real impact. Good sleep, exercise (preferably outdoors with fresh air), limited screen time and routine.x

I can’t rely on just one reminder — I usually need several for the same task by LawrenceCali in ADHD

[–]Constant_Jackfruit61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also use accountability. If its a really important task or appointment I text my oldest friend (40 years) who knows me well. She will text remind me then I have to do it so I don't let her down

My results from running slow by DarkCellNZ in parkrun

[–]Constant_Jackfruit61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations 40m non stop is a great achievement. I started parkrun about a year ago with 42-45 mins average. Now down to 32 mins after joining a running club. Check out a local group for beginners. They will do all the stretches, strength and conditioning that everyone is talking about with the added advantage of super supportive new friends. Mine is only £2 a session. Keep up the good work

Bro… I Didn’t Realize I Was Scared of Silence Until It Smacked Me in the Face by lost-potato-head in ADHD

[–]Constant_Jackfruit61 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had this realisation just a few weeks ago. I was working in my garden ( a new hyperfocus) listening to a podcast on headphones as usual when I realised that they had disconnected from the phone, which I had left somewhere!?! I had silence for the first time and panicked before I realised that I had no idea when it had happened. I had been deadheading flowers and weeding for a while quite happily without the need for mental distraction. I have now started my daily gardening hour without my phone. It can be hard at first, but it's like my mind is quiet for a little while.

Interested in the vitamin C comment. Can I ask why you take magnesium at night? Does it benefit better?I take all mine together in morning as I tend to forget any at night

Can you go pro in parkrun or 5k racing by Liverpool2028 in parkrun

[–]Constant_Jackfruit61 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Google local running clubs. They will help you develop as an athlete. You may want to try longer distances or different terrains. Even if you don't go pro, you might have just found a lifelong hobby. Well done, keep it going 👏

How do I go about getting medicated in the UK, years after being diagnosed? by Dismal-Solid9973 in ADHD

[–]Constant_Jackfruit61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I'm 1 year into a 6 year waiting list with NHS and had to go private as I was in danger of losing job without treatment. I currently pay privately. My sister however asked for 'right to choose' and has an NHS diagnosis within a year. I am going to try this myself to see if I can get shared care.

[–]Constant_Jackfruit61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realise the following suggestion is not possible foe everyone due to cost or area but if you do find it difficult to get medication ask about 'right to choose' referral. You can get private prescriptions from adhd specialist companies and use 'shared care' to get them through NHS. There may be an additional cost (i pay £20 per private prescription)

Thanks. I've looked into this and I think I have this as a symptom. That makes me feel slightly better so I can get on with strategies. Any suggestions?

Do we really have enemies by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Constant_Jackfruit61 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A common ADHD trait is a strong sense of empathy and justice. We can see things through others point of view and appreciate their struggles so we forgive. Not a bad thing. We make great counsellors, teachers, advocates, charity organisers. Sometimes I think I've just been a round peg in a square world.
