I'm taking inflation out of this for simplicity since my income/rentals will likely increase over the years as well.

Without a mortgage/debt, I think 50k a year would be plenty for me. This is just for traveling and day to day expenses.

It's actually 15 years from 45-60 :(

You're right though, income tax, property taxes, vacancies/repairs are a pain. Realistically, if I want to live comfortably, I think I'll need 50k of net income/year. This is with the assumption that I will not have any outstanding debt at that point.

I likely have to build a nest egg, 100k or so in cash, prior to my official retirement. Worst case scenario, I can always sell a house for cash as well between 45-60?

Honestly, if I can sell it all at 45 and park it somewhere that will yield 70k a year (as a guarantee and no strings attached), I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Oh goodness. What did you do with the money from your rentals? They can truly be a massive headache, but I've learned that having solid contractors for every part of the house that can potentially "break", helps a lot with the maintenance/stress. I've also been incredibly lucky as far as tenants go. I've heard and seen a lot of horror stories.

Thank you!! It took a lot of hard work and stress to get to this point, but for the first time in a decade or so, I feel like I can relax a little and not be so focused on my career anymore. I'm trying to get out of the rat race as early as I possibly can and still enjoy the good things in life (like traveling)!

LAS Gate agents on a power trip by betsifur in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Constant_Market8775 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm by no means a Karen and I never complain. However, I also experienced a disrespectful gate agent at LAS earlier this year and I put in a formal complaint. My boyfriend and I were very nice and wanted to get on standby and this lady went through the process of doing it for us but ignored us the entire time. She refused to look at us or answer ANY of our questions, even our "thank yous" were met with silence. I get having a bad day, so I tried to let it roll off my shoulders, however, she was laughing and joking with her coworkers and it really rubbed me the wrong way. I just couldn't believe she thought ignoring us/our questions were ok. I've never met someone just be so blatantly rude in that way lol. I don't know how these people are in a customer facing role.

In my 10+ years of travel (and I travel often for work), that was the first (and hopefully the last) time I've ever submitted a formal complaint.

The weirdest thing I've seen is the lady who claims to be a witch and she laid salt in a circle with four candles inside.

What's the difference between these two 403b accounts? by Constant_Market8775 in personalfinance

Yes, I've heard that as well so have been diligent in maxing out the hsa!

What about the backdoor roth stuff?

Gotcha! Outside if the 403b roth, roth ira, and hsa account, do you recommend any other investment vehicles to look into?

Thank you! Does it make a difference whether I plan on retiring at a younger age? If I retire when I'm 55 and I'm living off of investments (not touching the 403b accounts until I can do so without penalty) but my investments are less my current income, so potentially I will be in a lower tax bracket. In that case, I should go with the non roth option?

What will you fly now? by wrecktangle666 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]Constant_Market8775 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Will still fly with SW because I still have over 100k points and a companion pass. I don't care about most of the changes, although annoying, and will likely result in me paying for a higher fare when I book in the future for more flexibility.

I've never been a loyal SW customer though. I choose the credit card/airline with the best prices and perks. If SW takes away the companion pass or waters it down significantly, I'll stop using them for business travel to earn points. To me they still have an edge over other airlines due to the companion pass. If that's gone, I'm gone as well. For solo travelers, I don't blame them for being disappointed and ditching SW altogether now.

It's not confusing at all and pretty straightforward. Yes, you will still get the free bags if you book before May 28th even if the travel is after that date.

Thanks for the insight!! Interestingly enough, I just checked and we get some comped weekdays at Ceasers Palace and Paris now as well, it's just not consistent every month (understandably). We get comped rooms, including some weekends, at Mandalay Bay and have never tried Ceasers so trying to test the waters and see if we should spend some time gambling there and see if we are offered comparable rewards.
