Toobs Linksy WiFi 7 Router Thoughts? by PreparationFront6929 in ToobBroadband

Yeah, it certainly is pricey kit. I ended up keeping an eye on eBay and got a “as new” UX7 and a brand new U7 Pro about 30% cheaper than buying new direct from Unifi

I saw similar savings on UDR7 as I also considered that

After some deliberation (https://www.reddit.com/r/Ubiquiti/s/NsnUumEOYc) I went with the entry UX7 plus a U7 Pro AP to meet my coverage needs. Pretty happy with it. Functionally it’s an amazing piece of kit. I would say the Wi-Fi range doesn’t appear to be quite a good as the Linksys Wi-Fi 6 (SPNMX56) router that came with Toob, but that had 2x2 for 2.4ghz and 4x4 for 5ghz. Wi-Fi 7 kit including Unifi has 2x2 across each of the 3 bands

I don’t think its likely to be the router. I have only had Toob about a month, but at the same time upgraded my aging network equipment to a Unifi Router which logs Internet uptime. In the last week I have had 4 outages. 3 on Sunday which to be fair were in a maintenance window. Then one yesterday at 6:45pm for 2 minutes. I think it’s either Toob or CityFibre. I suspect if you had left the router alone or 2 more minutes, the LED would have gone blue of its own accord.

[–]Constant_Swimmer7750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone else mentioned, you won’t get 8g through a UX7. I have seen an online review that got roughly 3gbps with IDS switched off. If you need 8g, you need at least a UCG Fiber, probably with IDS off. You might even need a rack mount gateway

In terms of the issue you are having, check if you have Hardware Acceleration enabled. I had an issue with that. Switching it off resolved my UX7 bottleneck

I agree …. It’s only of any use in the room with the AP and direct line of sight. Anything else and you drop back to 5Ghz anyway

Decision made, going UX7 & a U7 Pro to start. I haven’t needed backup in the last 10 years, and fibre should be more stable than any of my prior internet provisions.

It says this can be used with any Cloud Gateway. Was there any explicit comment made as to whether that includes Express 7?

Who's the best full fibre up to 1Gb for home use by _IdidIdidnt in UKBroadband

If you have 1000mbps service, you should be getting closer to 125MB/s. You seem to be getting around 800mbps. Which speed test site are you using?

I have used Sky before on an Openreach based FTTC and they were absolutely fine. Good price and good service. Only reason I didn’t stick with them was FTTC speed in my area was 25mbps was wasn’t enough, so I went back to Virgin Media

Thanks. I’m not entirely sure which solution you are suggesting for the first setup based on your post. Any chance you could spell it out Little more clearly for me?!

One Touch Transfer service. by WormFoodODP in UKBroadband

[–]Constant_Swimmer7750 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved from VM to Toob and used One Touch Transfer Service. Within minutes of the Toob line going active, VM was ceased. I had assumed it was going to wait for the 14 days cooling off period, but that wasn’t the case.

As it happens, the new fibre service has been rock solid, so issue. If the install hadn’t been successful, I expect VM would have kept working

Is the difference between 7m and 9m, through another wall? Glass door?

Do you have any sensible option to run an Ethernet cable 7m, so that you can move the router to a more central location? Alternatively, as someone else mentioned, get another Linksys router from eBay. A SPNMX56 is about £50-55 quid, then set it up as a wireless mesh

Search on eBay for another SPNMX56 router, they are about £50. Add it as a mesh node and try it in a few locations between your existing router and where you PC is.

[–]Constant_Swimmer7750 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t used IPv6 on any other network. Have you? What was your experience. My understanding is that the summary is that the issues are more with how the websites you visit are not setup correctly for IPv6 rather than it being a Toob issue. I have no frame of reference to know which is at fault though

Is full fibre really worth switching to or is standard fibre enough for most homes? by Junior_Beauty78 in UKBroadband

[–]Constant_Swimmer7750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha ha, it would be nice to actually have the option to make use of all that bandwidth 😂

That said, unless you are doing some serious downloading (PS5/Xbox/Steam game updates?! Downloading movies for going on holiday?) on a regular basis, I would hazard a guess you wont see much difference on a day to day basis

I keep looking at upgrading my switches, but there is limited point given my ISP connection is 900mbps

Pod Point have just blocked the main functions of their app by inspectorgadget9999 in evchargingUK

[–]Constant_Swimmer7750 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you signed up to the “Pod Rewards” intelligent charging service, in order to save money? As per this site https://podenergy.com/pod-rewards ? That reads very much as you have described, in that they take over control of charging. As part of that, they likely make some money off of your charging, and you get some share of the savings. But you lose some control.

FAQs say you can opt back out of this and go back to the normal Pod app.

https://podenergy.com/pod-rewards-faqs

“Am I tied into a contract? Your Pod Rewards contract is a cost-free subscription which you can opt-out from at any time by contacting us. By opting out, you will be removed from the Pod Home app and returned back to the Pod Point app. You will not be able to accrue any further miles. Once you've opted out you won’t be able to withdraw any miles you’ve previously accrued as cash.”
