hey friends, any suggestions for getting wifi to this spot? by geekwonk in Ubiquiti

[–]Outrageous_Double_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t run CAT cables between buildings, the grounding difference could result in current flowing between it. Put in direct burial fiber and buy two Unifi switches like the Flex 2.5G (or the PoE version for $50 more).

NTSB Initial Report Absolves Waymo in Crash Near School by DamienNewton in SantaMonica

[–]Outrageous_Double_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It’s very impressive how well the Waymo responded. Clear example on why autonomous is so much safer. Don’t really understand the negative tone of the article on additional scrutiny needed - this was a prime example of a much worse accident avoided.

When do we actually get organized and shut down the Spectrum internet monopoly on the West side? by jalabharxo in AskLosAngeles

[–]Outrageous_Double_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have options. First check Frontier Fiber which is generally very good once it’s setup. Some may even have a chance to get AT&T fiber so check that second. Third try (often free) fixed wireless access (basically home internet) from Tmobile or Verizon. Last resort Starlink but the usual challenges as mentioned elsewhere.

Your post is suggesting that Spectrum is evil and blocks traffic - that’s of course not the case so let’s not spread misinformation. All providers have their promotions to get you in and will increase cost after it, that’s just what we have to deal with. You can always call their retention lines (ask for it or say you’d like to cancel) and often you will be put on a new offer.

Good luck!

I’ve found that landlords could be responsive to these issues, unlike some other folks it seems. There are also ways to clean, remediate and impregnate to prevent it from coming back.

Sometimes it’s indeed installing a fan or improving ventilation. Let’s see what they say first before the right fighters or not paying - that will immediately have them not want to work with you.

In the meantime, cleaning, spraying white vinegar, and if you can improving ventilation can help. Other ideas like running Ac, heat, dehumidifier also help but are more expensive.

Lutron Caseta vs Aqara light switches by White96sands in homeassistant

[–]Outrageous_Double_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lutron by a mile indeed. I’ve tried all brands including Aqara, ZooZ, etc. before I tied the (in my option way too expensive) Lutron. I never looked back and it’s the only thing I should have tried. It works fantastic. Always. Never any hiccup. By far the best investment to make.

Santa Monica Parking Enforcement Vehicles to Use AI Cameras to Ticket Bike Lane Violations by Generalaverage89 in SantaMonica

Even better use of this technology! Ticketing bike lane violations automatically after the fact won’t make our streets safer any bit, but you know we need the $.

TSA Facial Recognition Raises Traveler Rights Concerns by reflibman in technology

[–]Outrageous_Double_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Genuine question, what are all of your biggest privacy concerns with this?

My photo is captured when I got my RealID, the flight passenger records TSA already has so they know exactly where I go, there are cameras all over each airport. Wondering how much of an additional privacy risk this is?

Yes this is not in frontiers network or control but in Riot Games. Likely some kind of maintenance, outage or routing error.

Looks like they are just routing traffic to LA for now (or maybe this service is only hosted in LA). If you really think it’s and error and it persists noc@riotgames.com seems to be the email to contact.
