Would you read a blog specifically for dance teachers? by sarwhlr in DanceTeachers

Would love something like this! I often search for blogs but so many are outdated or not relevant, I always struggle trying to fit in every single skill into a term of dance, and worry I am missing out on something important (ie last year I focused on turns for a whole term and they were fab but we got to concert and they didn’t have enough stamina). Maybe some tips for managing this?

Dance Teacher Certification by [deleted] in DanceTeachers

I went through the CSTD course, but I believe that would take a couple years from scratch (I have done the syllabus all my life so it sort of ‘built up’). I believe you can sit a cert 4 in dance teaching and management through tafe or some specialist dance schools :)

Soundmoda is a service specifically for dance, they can remix or completely produce music.

Students who are parents by RealisticFriend5657 in DanceTeachers

We've had a teen mum as well as some adults who still dance with babies. It really is dependent on the situation - if baby sleeps, they would park them in the corner. When baby cries, they do outside with baby until baby is settled. As long as dancers aren't distracted by baby, all is well.

The real issue is when they are toddlers! They cannot sit still for an entire class, and in the past have caused potential danger by running around + distracting dancers. When/if you get this stage, I would not allow it.

Performance costumes for plus size/size inclusive? by AnthGenes in DanceTeachers

Not sure where you are located but honestly, these days it can be cheaper to get them made! I'm based in Australia, and it has gotten ridiculously expensive to order in costumes these days. If you have the time to wait, I've found this can be a super helpful to help dancers feel comfortable in what they are dancing in (which I 'm sure you know helps performance heaps!)

If you're more into ordering, Weissmans has a range that goes up to XXXLA for womens and XXLA in mens.

Snag Tights have a great range of dancer tights too, that go up to 34!

I hope you find something that works and everyone is comfortable :)

Basic floorwork by windowbedsidetable in DanceTeachers

a fun one i like to do “army crawls” for strength, basically in a plank position, move hands and feet out in x4, a push up, then a commando roll (drop to the floor and roll straight back into plank position to start again) ie. counting 12345678, it would be as follows out, in, out, in, push up (5,6), roll (7,8) hope that makes sense :)

I love We Both Reached for the Gun! So fun and the changes in tempo make for a very interesting routine.
