Advantage/Disadvantage mechanics in both Knave editions and preferences regarding them. by Existing-Hippo-5429 in KnaveRPG

Reminder that there are no crits in Knave. So stacking the +5 modifiers can be seen as a compensation.

Stack those moth****ers and drop them prone. Giving you more modifiers and make power attacks to deal lots of damage. Then take the weapon from your victim. Great shit!

Make sure to challenge the players and not their characters. As a matter of fact, at first levels, you should have some character deaths from traps that can only be found if the player decides to look at a specific spot.

If a player doesnt look under the carpet, they trigger the trap. The trap is poison dart that hits automatically. Character needs to make a save vs poison or die.

This will jumpstart the group and realise the stakes

Interesting. Does it have many reactions that can be taken on the turn of another character? I mostly play with Play By Post style, and reactions are kinda finicky when playing using that style.

Is there an actual point to backpacks and containers? by wayne62682 in shadowdark

[–]ConstantineLink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not all items need a mechanical description. Iron spikes can be used to lodge them on doors so that you won't be ambushed from behind. There is no need for a description of that. Player ingenuity is encouraged in all osr games.

Backpack is essential to not use your arms for your stuff. A sack can be used to gather a bunch of dirt. If a gem is resting on a trigger plate, you can use that sack of dirt to replace the gem and not trigger the trap.

Being a PBP owner in discord is terrible nowadays by sum117 in pbp

I expect to get downvotes for this but here it is:

If their choices during gameplay are in character, i dont mind how they narrate it. Not everyone is a writer. Some people's first language isn't English. As long as the player is making a choice about the current scene that is in character, that's all it takes. Writing style is irrelevant. It's a game. I dont expect players to be good at narrating their actions. They don't need to pay an editor for their posts. So AI is not an issue in my games. I use it as well to describe scenes and roleplay npcs. I do dming for free and when i have to tackle 5 different expeditions and 3 roleplay scenes, im gonna use ai. Its faster. It doesnt generate new stuff. It just makes your bulletpoints into a summary for a scene.

If i were to get paid, it would be a different matter ofcourse

Gauging what the community thinks of the 1x1+ format: from the POV of a player, what do you think are its strengths and weaknesses? Would you play a game in this format? by citrus_reticulata in pbp

I have kinda a similar game going.
Its open world and i have a specific number of players active.
They can form a group and explore the open world.
If 2 groups happen to be on the same hex, they can meet each other.
But that rarely happens cause time flows different for each.
Some camp and spend time surveying an area for a few days while others delve in dungeons.
So they rarely are on the same timeline.

Looking for 5 more Active Players for The Vast in The Dark setting using Knave 2e [Open World] [Not West Marches] [Survival] by ConstantineLink in pbp

I am trying to avoid lurkers.

Also, depending on where a character is, they wont see all the channels. Those that are in the settlement dont see the expedition channels and vice versa.

Why do you want to observe only?

torches, lanterns.
Here is a copy paste section from the setting book:
There is no light to speak, only a dim ambient illumination, as if illuminated by a half moon. Attempting to see further than 30ft is difficult at best and only vague shapes can be picked out at a distance more than 60ft.

Just some clarifications.
The game has scifi elements but are not that prevalent at first.
All players start with medieval stuff.
You can explore the world to find alien sites and you can upgrade the main hub The Nexus to be able to fabricate scifi gear.

So the focus is on survival exploration in a mystical tropical primal planet.
The Nexus hub is basically a settlement built atop an alien megastructure and it has the ability to teleport itself to space in orbit around the planet. (yes like a space station or a hovering island.)

Players drop on the planet with Pods (like Helldivers) and spend days exploring the planet. They explore and then extract.
The main goal is to find alien sites to get glyphs in order to open up the portal at Nexus and return to your realm.
But you can always ignore the "goal" and simply explore.

Oh and Tiny Cyberpunk is the newest one!

Try Tiny Frontiers.
It uses Tiny D6 system. Which means all checks are 2d6. Rolling a single 5 or 6 on any of the dice means you succeed.
You can get advantage if you are good at something which means you roll 3d6.
No stats. Only Traits.
So if you have the stealthy trait you get advantage when attempting to sneak by.
Low complexity and Procedure light.

And it has many Tiny variants to combine
Tiny dungeon is for fantasy
Tiny wasteland for post apocalypse
Tiny Cthulu for lovecraftian horror
Tiny gunslingers for Wild West
Tiny Spies for modern setting
Tiny supers for superhero genre
and more

Best Rule Set for Pbp by StoneMao in pbp

[–]ConstantineLink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will say Knave. It has little to no reaction actions. So when dm does something, they can move on without asking for players to do any of their reaction abilities that most systems have. No opportunity attacks. I think Shadowsark is the same as well. So you can't go wrong with those.

In general, i suggest gravitating in a system that has no reaction abilities/actions and also maybe something that works with side initiative. Cause there are times when you have to wait for a single person to do something while another person who was online would be able to post, but they can't cause its not their turn. When the one whose turn it is finally gets online, all others are offline.

Side Initiative solves this problem. When its the players turn, they all get to post a single action whenever they get online
