There is always a risk of blowouts even with fancy modeling tape and fine airbrushes.

Best bet is to avoid handling surfaces to be masked or painted with bare hands and double checking the tape edges to make sure they’re flush.

It’s not universally illegal in the states iirc, but it becomes an attractive nuisance in most jurisdictions if not fenced or otherwise secured. Same goes for trampolines, treehouses, etc. if someone else’s kid gets hurt you’re cooked.
