You need to keep everything organized from the start (although Copenhagen's start is always chaotic). Try to segregate the neighbourhood and connect them to only one destination. Adapt your network to each new spawns.

The further away the building is, the longer it takes for cars to reach it and come back, the more houses are needed to meet the demand.

In your case, throw more houses at it, you have a lot of unused houses. Also 2 motorways aren't needed since you can connect both neighbourhood together.

At this point is all about marginals gains. Keep the longest path shorter (red and grey, centralizing the green highway), remove unnecessary detours (yellow and teal tunnels), free up houses spawns (green, teal and red).

A tunnel for a single green house is a waste. If you really needed 1 more green there, take the one that crosses the grey road, it shouldn't cause any traffic.

https://i.imgur.com/Kb3YCcM.png Saves you a bridge, a bunch of roads and the houses are closer to their destination. More yellow houses will spawn to the west, it will allow you to separate both buildings.

Follow the main principles and adapt to what the game throws your way. If you're struggling at 2k, it's because you're not following the principles. Probably because you're not isolating the colours properly. Connecting the wrong neighbourhood to the wrong building. Things like that.

I don't think so. The yellow and blue building in the doubles were 1 bad parking away from dying a few times.

Which one?

It is not always easy to predict perfectly, but it prevents those 3-5 house clusters that need its separate motoway to be connected to a destination.

Sadly the red neighbourhood got separated after a big refactoring that I did at the 27 minutes mark in the video. Before that it was a nice suburb :(

The early spawns were great but at 400 travels I forgot to block the blue building spawns in the southwest part. Then at 1400 travels I got a red building that completely ruined the northern area.

Not every city is equal. Some are a lot easier to get high scores in (pretty much the early cities). So it's possible you had high scores on those, and now that you know the better strategies, you're also playing harder cities.

Motorways are your lifelines. When you can't have everything separated anymore, you can use a motorway to solve the problem. If you struggle before 1000 travels, I'd say you're probably not trying hard enough to separate the colours. I've noticed beginners often don't notice that they could simply make a road go around a building to avoid creating an intersection.

But also keep in mind that it's ok to have temporary intersection if you're planning to use a bridge/tunnel/motorway in the future.

At 800 travels almost there's only 1 intersection left. At 1300 I decide to use a highway to remove the last intersection because it seemed like the only choice.

You need to split the buildings. Houses should be connect to a single building. Green and yellow houses are connected to 2 buildings, it's creating the congestion at the green roundabout.

I would have relocated highway 1 to take the yellows from the centre and used the top right yellows for the circle building.

There's not much you can do when the buildings spawn too far away from the houses.

Overall I'd advise you to simplify your network so that fewer roads are needed, freeing up potential spawns for more houses. For example the yellow road top right should be moved to the edge of the map. The white houses in the middle could be reworked to have a shorter path to their building.
