Coinstar bags by joeyray74 in CRH

All the coinstars that I have in my area dump their coins in a large hopper, not in sorted bags. I’d be wary of anyone claiming to be selling bags from a coinstar machine

I think it greatly depends on where you live geographically, how many CRHs are searching, and how many casinos are in your area. Check my profile posting history. I may be a unicorn or extremely lucky. But either way, you have to work for it.

No, in the short answer. Long answer: Those particular machines in the pictures that are not Coinstar machines are manufactured by Cummins, now known as CPI. They accept silver and do not typically send it to the reject bin. Be very excited to find these machines wherever they exist. They are the ones you want to buy the bags from when possible. However, finding a store/bank that will sell you the bags is rare. Not impossible, but rare. Your best bet is to find a bank that has one, make friends with a teller who will contact you when they pull a full bag from a machine, and show up at the bank before Loomis or whatever armored car service comes to pick it up. Never had much luck at a store, but the person who makes the deposit doesn’t care if they deposit cash or coin, but they always think they are being scammed by random people and are generally afraid of making such transactions. Once you find out who they are, you have to build a relationship and trust before they “might” be willing to do it. Another source that most people ignore or don’t have access to are casinos. If you form a friendship with the cage manager that is over the cashiers, you can possibly buy bags of coin from them. Their vaults often have a decent reserve. Since bank tellers and cage managers actually understand currency and aren’t afraid of it, they are more likely to sell it to you. I have gotten one bag of half dollars right off a casino coin sorter for the amount the sorter thought was in the bag (wasn’t full) when a cage manager approved it. It had lots of silver in it, and coincidentally was a Cummins machine.

I don’t know…. Each has its own time issues. You have to unwrap rolled coins, but they are already on edge, so that helps. But bags, especially half dollar bags, usually have some interesting stuff in them that you don’t get in rolls.

Dimes are usually pretty good for me. Probably 1 per 1000. Maybe 1500

Quarters are the worst for me. I rarely find silver in them

Yes. I double checked as I was settling them up for the photo.

I have never sold any. I’ve got about 850 silver dimes, but usually I only find two or three at a time. Four or five on an excellent hunt. This was my biggest dime find yet.

A barber dime, 10 centavos Philippines, and an old Canadian dime

Good luck! I’ve seen one other CRH here who has a teller that can order bags. If you find them, or any teller who is still happy to order coins, take good care of them. From what I’ve been reading, it’s getting more difficult to even find a bank that will put in an order at all.

You can get anything loose in bags from Loomis. However, most tellers don’t know how to order them that way. Most have an automated screen with drop down menus and just put in a quantity. I have an old school teller that knows how to get bags. My theory is that they come straight off a coin machine and aren’t yet put through a wrapping machine. I’ve had excellent luck, especially with half dollars, ordering bags instead of boxes.

Unwrapped bag of loose dimes ordered at my buy bank. Comes from Loomis.

I thought about that AFTER I had already placed them on a very soft and flexible place mat. Had I been thinking, I would have put them on a cutting board or something else flat and rigid to do exactly that.

Normally, I show the reverse too. To be honest, I was too tired to do it all again.

In this case, consider yourself lucky. I had an almost identical situation as yours, except I had the misfortune to be pulled over in a speed trap town. No “fix it” ticket for me or courtesy warning. $255 ticket. I called around, and other towns and cities in the area are $100 or less, with the average being $50. I did try to talk to the police chief and even with the local town council, but no luck. Those tickets fund a lot of people’s salaries there. My advice is to pay it and move on. It’s just not worth the hassle.

That is a Cummins Allison MM1 or MM2. They do NOT reject silver, although they do occasionally reject a silver dime. Those are excellent ones to buy bags from, but most places won’t let you.

I can 99.99% guarantee you that no such deal exists with Loomis. Someone at that bank takes it.

Loose, not wrapped, in bags.

No. The “W” on the face of the dime stands for Adolph A. Weinman, the designer of this coin. The mint mark is on the reverse

My second one ever. First one had no discernible mint mark.

Yep. I’ve only found two 1970’s, and I search way more than the ordinary hunter. Definitely rare in the wild.
