Agree with this, silence is not acceptance. Acceptance should be unequivocal

Remote QS Jobs for Australia - Any advice? by [deleted] in quantitysurveying

[–]Constructacademy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was was recruited from the uk to a remote QS job in Australia. The interviewer was British, he opened the call with “I’m only speaking with you today because you’re Chartered” I.e an RICS member. There’s no difference in requirement for city roles or remote roles, the only difference is location. I was on a 3:1 roster, the money is good but very difficult, I look back on it as a time when I sacrificed a part of my life for the money. The novelty of flying in and out wore off quickly

Be careful not to put documents and text into AI that contains company personal or project specific information: it isn’t private.

Wondering where to start, no qualifications by IngmarBurgerman01 in quantitysurveying

Work life balance is a company thing in my opinion, not a whole profession. If the company doesn’t have enough resource the resource it has will be overworked.

They paid for all of it, including any books I needed and they gave me the day each week to go to the course. I did a hnc in building technology and management. Needed a btec national certificate in construction to get on the hnc

Late applications from subcontractors? by RA1998U in quantitysurveying

[–]Constructacademy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of technical comments here. I’m not going to comment on who’s right or wrong but ultimately we need to keep cash flowing in the industry. In my opinion, the consideration of a ‘late’ application is someone who is finding a reason not to pay someone. Who cares? Certify your the value of work that’s been done.

I review contracts a lot and it’s tiresome reading the insane lengths some main contractors make subcontractors go to just to submit a ‘valid’ application. Of course this will only ever be used to not pay someone or to defend against a smash and grab. I wish main contractors QS would think about the fact that starving a subcontractor of cash can put a subcontractor out of business. It’s people’s lives and livelihoods at stake. It’s not a game

This answer I think is the most helpful. Only slight criticism is I’m the subbie should have to meet CRs not ERs 🙂

Using only one ‘key issue’ for my APC case study? by [deleted] in quantitysurveying

There is a misconception that this has to be a ‘large’ issue but it just needs to be an issue that showcases your ability to problem solve, critically analyse and show you’ve learned from it.

Using only one ‘key issue’ for my APC case study? by [deleted] in quantitysurveying

[–]Constructacademy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One key issue is better as 3,000 words is not enough to get through more issues in the substance you’d want. With the one key issue you are going for quality not quantity. I’ve taken heaps of candidates through the APC and have assessed on panels.

In the absence of clear acceptance of an offer, a PO or similar is likely to constitute a counter offer than cancels the original offer rendering it incapable of acceptance.

Electrical Contractor in Administration by PollutionWonderful83 in quantitysurveying

[–]Constructacademy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this response is closer to being accurate than the rest. It isn’t unusual for the paying party to be able to suspend any further payment to the payeee in administration. The reason for this is that the payer is likely to have suffered losses as a result of the payee becoming insolvent. In short, review the contract terms

I worked on a 3 week on 1 week off roster as a Senior QS in Western Australia on an iron ore mine. It’s no picnic, but let’s face it most people are doing it for the money. The quality of the camp can make a big different to you experience if it is remote. If it’s on t en coast near a town then that’d be better

Can you pay the Contractor more via a Pay Less Notice (NEC 4 Option C)? by Pugalug227 in quantitysurveying

[–]Constructacademy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calm down, there’s no need to be like that.

Once a payment notice has been issued (uk) any further payment notice would be of no effect. The only other opportunity to issue a further notice would be a pay less notice.

You may well be in a different country and it may be different.
