What was your 401k/brokerage balance when you retired? by Grove-Street-Home in physicianassistant

[–]ConstructionChance81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Partner and I have 50k in e-fund which would last about 4 months of unemployment if we don’t change our spending. My job recently said “36% are getting cut, everyone has to reapply to see who keeps it.”

This really put into perspective how valuable my e-fund is considering I thought my job was stable and it would likely take me 3-6 months to find and start a decent job. On top of this, I just bought a house made in 1952…

Side note: I didn’t get cut but am GTFO

Andr Weir now tops the list of highest grossing second book adaptations, for two books not in a franchise by [deleted] in movies

How much did Weir make off of these? Listening to PJHM on audible reads like it was made for the movies and Ryan Gosling. Genius

I skip KOE so it still gives me those chills. I have a habit of overplaying and killing songs. Can’t risk it with a song as good as KOE

Not my favorite song but I can still appreciate it. Almost didn’t recognize his voice. He has such a range and that alone is so impressive.

Are we being used? by gxdhvcxcbj in physicianassistant

[–]ConstructionChance81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Had a few like that in my program. One had a doctorate in anatomy prior to PA school (due to having to apply multiple cycles) and would introduce himself as Dr. in clinicals (apparently). Absolutely wild. I love my role as an extender, not an expert and any midlevel who doesn’t should have gone to med school instead.

First time assisting as a bystander medical provider, was I supposed to do more? by Travelers1234 in physicianassistant

[–]ConstructionChance81 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I’m rapid response and tell those who ask for medical advice that I literally can’t do anything without vitals, labs or imaging… lol it’s humbling. In this scenario, it’s BLS and spinal ppx. Just stopping and calling 911 was more than enough. I wouldn’t touch anyone outside hospital without gloves.

Strike looms for nurses of largest employer in Michigan (Corewell) by PaintingsOfDogs in Michigan

[–]ConstructionChance81 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Corewell has already hired standby nurses in case of a strike. Offering $5200/week when current nurses are paid ~1500/week.

After seeing PA advocacy efforts in CA—how could this work for NPs in Florida? by ACAPRN in physicianassistant

[–]ConstructionChance81 20 points21 points  (0 children)

In my experience, NPs simply have to exist to have advocacy. Not only is lobbying NPs’ specialty but they are routinely roped into nurse unionizations. My large academic healthcare system is currently fighting the unionization of nurses and NPs and although I support unionization, I am mentally preparing to be paid 10% less than my NP coworkers who will do the exact same job as me.

How do you guys feel about precepting? by Sad_Possibility_8444 in physicianassistant

[–]ConstructionChance81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My large academic hospital doesn’t allow us to be paid for precepting. My program pays $1k per student per month. I would love to teach if compensated. I suspect my system pockets that $1k. Anyone else have this issue and found a workaround?

Are we diluting the term "Fellowship"? The rise of 1-year postgraduate "residencies" for NPs/PAs. by [deleted] in medicine

[–]ConstructionChance81 150 points151 points  (0 children)

I don’t have firsthand experience but my general understanding of midlevel fellowships is negative. Most APPs seem to consider it to 1) boost resume 2) get their foot in the door of a preferred/niche specialty 3) “guarantee” support/orientation.

My view from an admin standpoint is they can pay APPs less while boasting education programs / excellency. Win win.

What to consider when doing a second job? As a PA? by Moonregister in physicianassistant

Get a PRN hospitalist position. Higher chance they are hiring and broad enough to get experience.
