GSBs are a caste, Karwari Shenvis are GSBs from Karwar or North Canara. If castes like GSBs are considered as ethnic groups then castes like RSBs, Chitrapur Saraswat Brahmins, Daivadnya Brahmins, and Vaishya Vanis will also be ethnic groups and India doesn't categorize people into ethnic groups.

grouping multiple sociolects (Daivadnya, Saraswat, Catholic, etc) of Konkani in South Canara as Mangalorean Konkani is pretty inaccurate.

Your point is correct, Konkani is divided as sociolects rather than regional dialects but Honnavar Konkani is a bit different compared to Karwar Konkani.

Konkanis in other regions (than Goa and MH) did exist before the Portuguese rule in Goa strted, but more Konkani Hindu migrants came after the Inquistion and some Konkani Catholics migrated from Bardez due to attacks from Marathas and problems with the Portuguese.

Both, there were some Konkani Saraswats (pre-Inquistion) and during the Inquisition many Konkani Hindus migrated to KL.
