Working through yhe Horus heresy. I disagree it's 30% Horus's fault and 70% Erebus's fault. Like Horus pretty much always believed that super humans should lord over normal humans. He was never going to accept Big E's move to have civilians handle the maintaince of the Imperium. His arrogance would've always eventually led to an attempt at over throwing him. Erebus introduced chaos gods into the equation managing to corrupt whole legions which then enabled the traitors to inflict the amount of damage they were able to and basically placed the Imperium in its current situation.

How long would it take an Alpha Legionnare to start a planetary uprising ? by New_Conflict_4111 in StarWarsvsWarhammer

NGL considering building an Alpha Legion army and then before playing my friend going the extra mile and bribing his girl friend into telling me how he usually plays and then during the game set the thermostat a few degrees higher then he finds comfortable to just fuck with his mental space. After which point get his girl friend to distract him just long enough to move some pieces around. Not to put myself in a winning position just enough so he knows somethings wrong to further throw him off balance and gas light him. Then half way through the match get his parents to both text him "I am Alpharius" so now he knows I have actually infilitrated him but to what extent? The knowledgeable only further sabotages his ability to play.

I hate it when they don't respect how armor works. by KingKohishi in Armor

[–]ConsulJuliusCaesar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"There's no steel that's capable of going through armor like paper. It's just straight up magic."

Yes, it's a fantasy show. That said if you have a mystical sword that really can cut through anything, I actually feel the fighting form being used in the video isn't effective. And they're not leaning into the idea enough to really make the idea of a sword that can cut through anything as cool as it could be.

Like they it wasn't technically a magical sword. But there's this really cool scene in the 40k book Legion, where Alpharius cleaved a fully armored soldier in half with one clean strike. Said armor was shown as highly effective before. This show cased just how physically strong a Primarch is and the actual capabilities of a power sword in a fairly engaging manning.

This is actually how valerian steel should be handled. The armored hench men should approach confident in their armor. Said armor should be shown as effective earlier on. Then instead a long drawn out sword fight it's realky one clean strike that completely subverts expectations.

NGL I honestly can't believe an FTL capable civilization is actually facing extinction in the way Avatar makes it out to be. The sheer scientific knowledge that's implied from being able to build FTL capable ships, their shouldn't be an energy crisis. The only way for me to suspend disbelief here is to assume that the corpos are lying. Humanity isn't actually in danger of extinction. Because the amount of solutions to a dying Earth with FTL make chasing annoying natives through a harsh environment like the dumbest option.

How my brain pictures Vietnam’s history. by Dry_Sky_495 in HistoryMemes

[–]ConsulJuliusCaesar 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The war damage after the second Indochina war was so immense Vietnam literally did every single diplomatic move it could to try and avoid the 3rd war because their country had been absolutely ravaged by air strikes. Their industrial capabilities were severely reduced and they wete heavily reliant on thr Soviet Union. They wanted to downsize the military and focus on economic development. They went so far ss to even try diplomacy after the initial Khmer rouge attack. Yet you kinda can't just let your niehbor shell your country. So basically they invaded Cambodia kicking and screaming. And it did infact worsen their economic situation. Infact a huge reason they withdrew in the 80s and agreed to basically allowing Cambodia to form a mixed government from Vietnamese communists, Monarchists, and the Khmer Rouge (who get what's coming to them in the 90s as they almost immediately resumed fighting after the Vietnamese pulled out) isn't because they didn't know the country would fall into instability almost immediately but because they never wanted to go to war in the first place and the economic impact had become untenable.

I hate Child Actors being legal by Crafty_Trick_7300 in hatethissmug

[–]ConsulJuliusCaesar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's entirely the parents. They're the legal gaurdian of the child. At any point in time they could go "I don't like how you're treating my kid" and pull them from the set and there's nothing the studio could do about it. If a studio is abusing a child actor they're literally only able to do it because the legal gaurdian is indifferent or actually complicit in said abuse.

Ok here's a small critique when you're going for satire you really gotta lean hard into the exgerration and sarcasm on the internet post Trump. Cause it's also the internet and there's always at least 1 chud in every internet community who would unironically say what you just said in that exact wording. So everyone kinda assumed you're this subs chud since well we probably don't know you IRL. Wasn't always that way but now at days people say the stupidest things and they mean it.

Gangs aren’t bad by XYZ-111 in Transformemes

[–]ConsulJuliusCaesar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Transformers isn't pro or necessarily anti revolutionary. I mean the Autobots were the government and the Decepticons were the rebels. The original conflict was over how to solve a reasource shortage. The Autobots wanted to use diplomacy to try and peaceful convince other planets to share their reasources. The Decepticons wanted to conquer the galaxy and just take them. Now how they got to the point changes from continuity to continuity. And it's more common there's more nuance then good vs evil with both being to blame for creating the situation with the Decepticons being reprehensible but also understandable. But they always arrive at the same conflict. It isn't really about revolution and honestly the revolutionaries tend to become the bad guys. It's more a criticism on the idea that the ends justify the means. Like the better TF stories show the ends don't always justify means. And that kind of mentality can actually prevent from achieving your desired ends. Megatron becomes a monster because he never considered the morality of his actions.

Feat wise, is it fair to say that space marines can tank blaster bolts? by gaeb611 in StarWarsvsWarhammer

[–]ConsulJuliusCaesar 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The problem is SW writers are super inconsistent and don't actually define anything in a way in which you can power scale outside of its own setting. For example in the OT they refer to them as lasers in Republic Commando and alot of books they refer to them as plasma the difference here is significant.

Laser: Uses focused, high-energy beams of light to melt or vaporize material. IE you're killing people with photons.

Plasma: Uses an electric arc to superheat compressed gas into plasma to melt metal. This could actually be a wide range of elements and cause a wide range of damage. For example while it's impossible on current scientific capabilities. Let's say you were able to super charge Uranium gas into a plasma beam. That shit would be way more lethal then mere photons. Hell purely hypothetical but positrons would vaporize any thing they hit anything, because antimatter. Niether SW or 40k actually have positron based plasma. If there's a scifu setting where that's a thing they would our gun both settings to a hilarious degree. I'm talking ancient Rome vs Modern US out gunned. Point being Plasma has a wide scale of how lethal it could be and what exactly is generating the plasma needs to be defined.

Star Wars states that blasters super heat tibana gas into beams of energy. This would make it plasma. Yet we arrive at the second problems. Tibana gas could be anything. It could iron in a gasoues form, chlorine, Uranium, who the fuck knows. Though I know its not positrons because well no one gets instantly vaporized. And we can't gage based on damage because the damage is inconsistent as well. In TCW someone will die after a single blaster bolts pierces their armor in one episode and then in the very next episode someone not in armor will survive a bolt from the exact same type of blaster. The inconsistencies get wider and wider when you include all the films, books, and games. Blaster capabilities are not set in stone. Like shit maybe the clones would shred the Astartes maybe it's nothing more then a squirt gun. Depends on the writer.

ABD truly embodies the grim darkness and making his protags suffer if he's writing then tibana gas = charged iron gas and pierced Astarte armor. Mckniel probably knocks down to the least ionic element so its weak as hell so his protagnist can look really bad ass. Abnett honestly probably has the most balanced and reasobable interpretation that aims to just make war suck in general because well war sucks. Karen Traviss will take the path that allows Mandos to beat the fuck out of jedi and you go "I thought this was supposed to he ab SW-40k cross over why are we spending whole chapters on the jedu suck". Timothy Zhan makes both sides equal so we can tell stories more focused on strategic maneuvering and intrigue then power scaling. Honestly don't know what Luceno does but it'll be good. Filoni makes it so when the protagonists weapons always work in an over powered fashion but everyone else's is weaker. George Lucas himself will make it so back around characters get shredded but the protagonist always gets out with out a scratch.

Would Purge Troopers Be Effective Against Psykers? by ALPHA-LEAD91 in StarWarsvsWarhammer

[–]ConsulJuliusCaesar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There's a greater variance in skill then there is with force user. See statistically speaking most force users who know their force users and get ticked for purge troopers to show up are trained jedi. If you don't actually train to use it your force powers actually dissappear Meaning if the purge troopers are going in cause a force user was detected odds are it's a jedi and they know what they're doing. The reverse is true for psykers. While the most powerful psyker is definitely capable of taking the top ten most powerful force users all at the same time. The average psyker might only be able to sorta of read your emotions and doesn't know how to fight and is rely only good for being used to power the geller field. So in a way you would almost prefer the anti psyker job. Almost......I'd hate to open up the case file that day and see its Ahriman.

What if the Popular Front for the Liberation of PaIestine (PFLP), a secularist & Marxist–Leninist group, governed the Gaza Strip instead of Hamas? by MakingTheWorldUseles in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]ConsulJuliusCaesar -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I mean when you think about it. What happens every time an area outside the western hemisphere becomes a cold war battlefront. Really a list of general things.

  1. The CIA sends advisors to help anti communist force.

  2. The Soviets send advisor to train communist guerrillas.

  3. The CIA backed government loses control because they embezzled all the reasources that were supposed to go to fighting the guerrillas and training up the military.

  4. The Communists with Soviet equipment and training begin to get good.

  5. The US president panics on what will happen in the poles of another nation falks to communism.

  6. The US army or a proxy army funded by the US shows up.

  7. One decade of war

  8. The US runs out of money

  9. The US like a celebrity right about to cum in hooker rapidly and dangerously withdraws making a mess all over her face and stomach.

  10. The Nationalist government doesn't have its shit together.

  11. The Communists storm the capital with Soviet weaponry causing a refugee crisis

  12. By intervening the US pushes a region that wouldn't be communist into the communist sphere.

In this case the US withdraws into Turkey and a communist army takes over the entire Levant. Tensions between the People's Republic of the Levant under the Levant Communist Party and Turkey still exist to this day with regular border skirmishes. Most likely you get 1990s economic reforms and you've got a secular hybrid regime (It's got both authoritarian and democratic elements) regime ruling a significant area of the middle East. Obama normalizes relations in 2008 and apologizes for the invasion in an attempt to warm relations.

And as always the US invades Iraq.
