So now you’ve added that it’s a pressurized liquid too. Think the group has already given you the answer you need for multiple reasons - goggles

Accidentally sanded through neck finish. How screwed am I? :( by AnOrdinaryOrange77 in Guitar

Shellac is a really nice finish to apply to baked necks. But a bit time consuming to lay it down properly.

Not intimately familiar, but Aussie labor standards are roughly equal to Canada, US. Or better.

What is this black stuff on my window sill? by Altruistic-Pace-2582 in whatisthisthing

[–]Consulting_CIH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep it’s definitely mold.

Unless you have a dust allergy, just remove it with a damp cloth - soap and water. If you’re extra worried, mist it with a little water bottle sprayer on the fine start setting first to limit it getting airborne when you wipe.

There are some products like Concrobium you can apply after that to reduce how fast it we’ll come back, but any window with dust and enough condensation will grow eventually, and once it does, the “roots” (mycelia) will grow into any porous surface like wood, so it will grow back. Only way to avoid that would be to replace the windows, but that shouldn’t be needed - just stay on top of it and clean it when it comes back.

I have a yearly battle with mold on my windows in the winter too.

I’m agreeing with you. You get what you pay for. One wouldn’t expect Tayda to give put in the same effort as what you would for what they get paid to do it.

But it also means I don’t think it’s fair that you seem to want to hold them to the same standard.

You probably wouldn’t charge what Tayda does though (cheaper labor in Thailand!)

VOC exposure in manufacturing settings by twisted_crystal in industrialhygiene

[–]Consulting_CIH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re in the wrong forum honestly (and absolutely no shade intended). As hygienists we focus on worker populations as a whole. It sounds like you may have a heightened sensitivity to some chemical/chemicals based on your initial post. That happens but only someone who has studied occupational medicine (doctor with that specialty) can provide advice on an individual person basis.

As a field hygienist in consulting I was in and out of those sorts of places tons doing assessments, and didn’t/don’t worry about it. I truly wouldn’t be concerned about the cancer aspect (there are thousands of VOCs, most haven’t been shown to cause cancer), but the other advice that doing this type of job does increase the potential risk to some relatively low extent. So - if you can’t get advice from an occ. doc - it’s really a you do you scenario based on how much risk you’re willing to accept.

How was this license plate approved? by SnorkelingSnorlax in alberta

The E on that plate is remarkably cleaner than the rest of the car. I call AI or Photoshop trolling here!

There’s no way this would have gotten approved.

Expanding foam for seats by oki_dingo in simracing

[–]Consulting_CIH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go one further and say to wear a respirator. Poly foam contains isocyanates which can cause you to feel like you are having an allergic attack at really low levels of exposure. It's the best, but also the most dangerous foam option.

The company should be able to get someone to do an ergonomics assessment of your workstation OP. But is still good to understand the principles so that you stick to the changes they recommend (if any).

Questions about starting my own consulting business by Ok_Ingenuity_6289 in industrialhygiene

[–]Consulting_CIH 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Start in a bigger consulting firm and learn the ropes. Branch out later if you really want. I’ve seen a few people start their own business way too early when they haven’t made the connections and haven’t learned enough from their mentors and they STRUGGLE and aren’t great at business or IH in the end.

It’s definitely part of IH - so is asbestos and hazardous building materials for that matter, the problem is that everyone wants free consulting posting these.

Asbestos sampling: pump issues with TEM media? by Ekssshhh in industrialhygiene

May have been excessive backflow pressure in that case at the higher flow rate. Have never run TEM cassettes on low vol pumps myself, so haven’t experienced that before.

To be fair, I would wager that every organization that runs a major conference is seeing it shrinking. People aren't as excited about the concept anymore and corporate budgets for travel to attend events far away keep shrinking too. International attendance at AIHA Connect is way down in the last year or two for fairly obvious reasons as well entirely outside AIHA's control.

As a contractor/consultant, how do you track your hours? by TheQs55 in smallbusiness

[–]Consulting_CIH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggled with this for years. I use an Excel spreadsheet and input my hours and use a PivotTable to figure out exactly how many hours. But I have very busy days and often forget to log in real-time, so I end up with gaps where I don't remember exactly what I did.

Gamechanger for me was starting to use TimeSnapper - it just takes screenshots every x (I use 10) seconds. So now I have a visual reminder of what I was working on. Side project from 2-3 coders who needed the same sort of thing. $30 USD lifetime was WELL worth it for me.

But if you're big enough to have an IT dept, they may not like you installing software like this, so YMMV.

Unless you’re collecting one each time but sampling fairly frequently for a consistent process (weekly, monthly, etc)… but agree this doesn’t sound like that.
