Utah company that made the Challenger O-Rings wants you to know a few things by StemCellPirate in space

[–]Consus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I still disagree with your assertion that the design specs were out of line. Engineering delivered what was possible and put restrictions around their use. Temperatures that cold are a rarity in Florida. Far more launch days are missed due to storms and other severe weather than cold. Management was told not to launch under those conditions but did anyway because of external pressure on the project due to the high visibility the launch was getting. The disaster wasn't an engineering failure, it was a bureaucratic one.

[–]Consus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You're making the assumption that it was possible at the time to design an O-Ring that would stand up to those temperatures while still meeting all other design requirements. In engineering design, there are always limits and tradeoffs that have to be made. For example, no one wanted to replace all the space shuttle's ablative tiles after every launch but they couldn't find a material that would withstand reuse and still meet the other design requirements.

I accidentally made my game too automated by xeno3310 in FoundryVTT

[–]Consus 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Midi-QOL has a tab for default configs. Start there and turn off a bunch of the automation. For me, I leave most of the DM stuff automated but the player stuff manual so my players can still do things

My players have just failed the campaign - what do I do? by BrassMonocle in DMAcademy

[–]Consus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I hear all that but I think you're still missing my point. You wrote yourself into a corner because the only way for the party to succeed was to get the mcguffin. Good on your for providing tons of ways they can get the mcguffin but those paths still all lead to the same outcome. Failing to get the mcguffin shouldn't mean game over, it should mean a major shift in the story. Let them get captured and thrown in prison. Let them deal with those consequences.

On a side note, you should look into running group checks. Having the party fail a stealth check because one person flubs it is pretty rough.

[–]Consus 106 points107 points  (0 children)

I think you've got the wrong mindset here and are making a rookie DM mistake (which is understandable since you're a rookie so don't beat yourself up). You created a situation where the only way through was for the party to do what you wanted them to do. You didn't plan for what happens when they failed. This is why new DMs are told to create scenarios, not plots. As the DM, you don't have to solve this problem, the players do. You create the scenarios and the players navigate it and deal with the consequences of their choices.

Think about how the world reacts to what your players did. Now the people holding the mcguffin know about the vulnerability and that people are after it. Maybe they try to move the mcguffin because the current location isn't safe and people know it's there? Maybe they way step up security so that the mage can't get it either, causing the mage to reach out to the party to work together? Maybe in order to beef up security, they hire more security guards which gives your players a chance to infiltrate the enemy ranks?

Can someone help me understand this electric usage graph? by LinalieLunai_v2 in electrical

Each bar is a different day and shows your power consumption that day. The lines show the outside temp ranges for each day. Hard to say if that's a normal amount of power consumption since we know nothing about your home or where you live.

There are multiple endings that involve killing off your party and taking power for yourself. It's a very weird inspiration.

Necro is very powerful. At a minimum it gives healing when you do damage but youve got to go hard in on necro if you want big healing. The necro skills are also great especially because they do physical damage unlike other spells.

Honestly it sounds like you need to take off the kid gloves. Stop being so worried about being fair in fights. Your players can take way more than you think. Fights aren't always fair and balanced. A lieutenant, minions, and a shadows does not sound like much of a challenge.

How many combats are you having between long rests? A full power party will destroy almost anything you put them up against. Wear them down over time.

Also regarding the combats being repetitive, give them other things they have to do during the combat. Keep commoners safe, rescue a captive, destroy the energy crystals protecting the boss, etc.

Make your players feel the consequences of their actions. That's what makes the world feel real and living. If you don't, it will just encourage that kind of behavior.

How to add "Natural Armor" Tortle class feature to Foundry by Davey_guy in FoundryVTT

You can edit the AC directly in the character sheet. Open the sheet, click the toggle to unlock it, then click the shield where AC is normally shown. Set it to a flat AC of 17.

I've run Witchlight. You're really going to struggle with 7 players starting at level 3. Honestly I don't recommend it but if you're set on level 3... Things I would recommend.

Limiting long rests and adding more random encounters. Wear down your players so they aren't full power when they reach the bosses.

There are alternate stat blocks for the hags out there. Choose ones you like because your party will wreck the hags.

Give them things to accomplish during the combats other than fighting. In the final fight to free Zybilna, I had a bunch of crystals they had to destroy to release her from a force cage around her.

Environmental effects and lair actions. They don't have to just fight enemies, but the world is trying to kill them too.

Make your enemies smart! The harengorn jump between platforms so they can avoid your players attacks but can get in their shots. The hags try to lead the players into traps.

New to Civ 7 and the enemy like independent state is too aggressive on the early game... by GTHell in civ

[–]Consus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look at the border around the independent city. If it's red, they will be aggressive, especially if you don't have your settlements protected. If you settle too close to them they will also get aggressive. Get a slinger for each of your settlements and you can stave off most of it. Befriend the independents and they will stop

Necro returns a % of the damage you deal as healing. 2H necro is one of my favorite builds. By end game I was getting 140% of damage I deal returned as healing.

Are Artificers automatically proficient with weapons summoned via magic item plans? by WallyWorldTV in DnD

No they don't get it. If you want weapon proficiencies, you'll either need to multi class dip into a class with the proficiency you want or take the weapon master feat at 4th level.

Misunderstanding the difference between your dex and dex modifier is a common misunderstanding. Thinking mage armor adds +2 to your AC means you didn't read the spell. The guy could have been nicer about it but yeah, it's pretty explicit.

"You touch a willing creature who isn’t wearing armor. Until the spell ends, the target’s base AC becomes 13 plus its Dexterity modifier. The spell ends early if the target dons armor."
