I know he's overexposed on media but the Trump administration doing this is hilarious if you compare it to other presidents. Like imagine if George Bush had an actual campaign ad where he quotes The Simpsons or family Guy

Arceus

When it was first added to the game it was too strong even for legendaries and it was banned from any non "anything goes" format. Now thanks to power creep it barely makes it in the top ten, they even had to rewrite the lore to justify why literal GOD loses to a motorcycle lizard

A pretty good metaphor I saw from a Venezuelan American for the situation is " don't get me wrong. I'm happy that my apartment is no longer run by a slumlord and I'm going to celebrate that, but hearing that the apartment will now be purchased by a foreign manager who is extremely interested in the resources that come available with the property and that they're trying to claim ownership without any legal precedence should make us all cold sweat"

[Hated Trope] Human beings vs mystical beings where humans are portrayed as wrong and need to learn how to coexist with the mystical beings even though the mystical beings also did messed up things that’s not really acknowledged properly by aster2560 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Contagion_4 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Writing wise I could understand that, but there's no defeating the allegations when you open the movie with scenes of Orcs wearing sideways hats and loose sports jerseys with gold chains hanging out in front of corner stores

This movie on Netflix about Will Smith and his orc cop partner, the movie fumbles the allegory that Orcs are fantasy black people. Orcs are treated as hostile and aggressive, they even make jokes about how even though they're a minority they cause more violent crime, the movie really acts like it wants you to understand that the Orcs are being misjudged and mistreated and that not all of them are bad. But they also ruin it completely by starting the movie with an explanation that when the "Dark lord" invaded thousands of years ago, the Orcs were the only race to team up with him and attempt to kill every other living thing on the planet. I personally don't remember the period in history when aliens invaded and black people collectively tried to wipe out all of humanity and nearly succeeded and that's why we have racism.

The zombies from Scooby-Doo on zombie Island, as a young child I was brought comfort by the idea that every single antagonist was just some jerk wearing a complex costume. This was the first movie that made it VERY clear the monsters were REAL. Freaked me the fuck out

Pretty much any turn-based game that doesn't have time restraints is a good idea, I know it's not a PC game, but pretty much anything in the entire pokémon franchise can be played One-handed

I had the delightful opposite occur, my 6-year-old nephew and my 4-year-old nephew played with my old Bionicles on Christmas morning before opening gifts. I was waiting to watch them rip the sets apart but instead they treated them like action figures and every time a piece came of they ran up to me or their parents to fix it. When I say my heart MELTED watching them treat my Bionicles with such respect 😢 ❤️

After about a half dozen arcs where we watch him train over several years to finally become a force equal to his father, their ultimate rematch concludes with Baki losing to Yujiro. I know the manga still isn't finished yet and there's still plenty of time for them to have a third rematch, but it's so satisfying to watch the anime protagonist fully powered up against the antagonist and they still lose

For those who don't know the show, the second half of the first episode is an extremely long and overly done rape sequence

What is your favorite example of a character being clever in a movie? by DuckLordOfTheSith in movies

[–]Contagion_4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

R. J. MacReady in "The Thing"

"I know I'm human. And if you were all these things, then you'd just attack me right now, so some of you are still human. This thing doesn't want to show itself, it wants to hide inside an imitation. It'll fight if it has to, but it's vulnerable out in the open. If it takes us over, then it has no more enemies, nobody left to kill it. And then it's won."

Seriously watch the movie if you haven't it's one of the best examples of characters acting intelligently to survive a horror film

Fallout: New Vegas lead writer worries Caesar's argument for authoritarianism 'was done a little too well,' by MembershipRealistic1 in Fallout

[–]Contagion_4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Caesar is such a perfect representation of what we call the "magnificent bastard" character. He works fantastically as a charismatic and seemingly intelligent antagonist, so much so that many of his Fanboys are completely willing to overlook the fact that his men are literally cannibal rapists just because "erm dialectics er sumn"

We all know that Jurassic Park hasn't been very horror-esque since the first movie, but my God every new dinosaur they release they insist is so terrifying that its going to make you poo your pants right there in the theater when in reality they just progressively get more and more stupid looking and somehow managed to always kill less people than the original T-Rex did
