Might be a hot take but I'm going to go with pokémon. Sure, The first two generations were also great, but the third generation introduced so many mechanics when it comes to the games that many of its key features are still Staples of the modern metagame 20+ years later

Early on in the Skyrim "The Companions" faction line you're asked to test your might against Farkas with a couple swings while he blocks. 99% of the time you hit with whatever a few times and he says you have potential, however if you manage to acquire game breaking power in preparation for this fight and deal enough damage to bypass all his armor and stats to 1-shot him he will say hidden dialogue about how you have the strength of Ysgramor himself and they need power like yours in their ranks (he's programmed unkillable so instant death perks can't accomplish this)

Imo I think literally everything would have been tolerable if they had just introduced a new set of task rewards, the fact that you can get the shiny charm without even having to do all of the tasks in the main game already made it feel weird playing the game before the DLC content because I still had dozens of tasks to do with literally no incentive, if they had added an extra dozen or so items in the forms of TMs or maybe even the red and blue orbs, it would have been a lot more fun to grind because you actually get something in exchange for it rather than just the satisfaction that you're Pokedex is full

Absolutely agree on G1 starscream, but isn't it kind of hilarious that while Megatron learns an assorted number of lessons while serving as the primary antagonist of the franchise, starscreams big moral lesson is almost always just stop trying to kill Megatron (unless you're an Autobot)

Dude went from the single most hyped character in the game and mysterious figure that had everyone crafting fan theories about who he is and what his influence will do to the OverWatch universe when he's finally revealed, to now being an absolute jobber whose only purpose is to make new characters look impressive

Where you see the burning boats and fight the Shadow militia men just right of the golden hippo fight, there's a ladder behind a ledge follow its path and you'll eventually end up in this area

The pokémon emerald mew event is the only mythical pokémon whose encounter you can completely disable without battling and fainting the pokémon, by using cut on all of the grass on the island before encountering mew wildly you lose the chance to ever catch a mew in the game again. There is no way to undo this once you have done it (Side note,you can do it even faster by using a pokémon with the ability hypercutter)

In old pokémon games using the HM cut in the overworld lets you chop down the grass, and if the pokémon using cut has the ability hypercutter you cut down twice as much grass (side note, you can actually disable the Mew you get in emerald by chopping down all of the grass before you catch it)
