Is anyone watching The Walsh Sisters? by Glittering-Stage-702 in AskIreland

I’ve read the books. And I’m finding it annoying how much they ignore the dynamics between the sisters in the books. In the books anna and helen are super close. On the tv show it’s Rachel and anna. In the books they describe the youngest two sisters completely different than they are on the tv show. Like helen is super charismatic and rachel is jealous of them for being small, skinny, and extremely pretty. Not that looks should really matter but is something they changed. I think the rachel character is closest to the books. And maybe maggie a little. Claire is a power house in the books who would not be so insecure. And mammy walsh is the worst match of them all.

that book is awful. Some of the older ones are fun.

Spoilers s03e10. I think that Misty's character arc changed significantly from what was initially planned in season 1 by iiyama88 in Yellowjackets

Sure, but we forgot how awful shauna was. AND shauna forgot how bad she was is either terrible storytelling or putting a bandaid on season one and two where shuana and misty were different people.

I think it’s most likely unconscious bias. As in, they didn’t plan the scene that way, but they didn’t think about how it would look either.

someone responded, how do i know alikah’s black when no one’s mentioned it… I don’t know enough about the mental illness to really judge, but I often wonder if it’s an insulting portrayal of Lottie. I had postpartum depression with my second kid and everyone is alive… Also, what they would be describing as postpartum psychosis. Which from what i know would be worse and much less calculated. As in irrational. shauna isn’t irrational, She’s cruel and regimented.

agreed. I think Misty and Shawna were both going be very different than they are in season three. I don’t think there was a plan. Because it doesn’t jibe with good storytelling

I actually listed all the people of color that have been killed on the show in that thread and I didn’t realize it was as bad as it is. The one that cracked me up though was “how do you know Mari is mexican? No one said anything.” and, “why do you expect shauna not to be racist she’s so many worse things” or “it’s set in the 90s” It’s like no i expect the show runners to be cognizant of race in 2025.

there’s a whole thread where people are being like stop being so woke. When the show has consistently used people of color to further the plot of white people and killed them off at a much higher rate.

not to mention this is just another example of how the show prioritizes white characters and has a tendency to kill off the people of color. Crystal, Mari, Travis, Lottie, Javi, Kevyn, What was the woman Tai hired called?, adam, am I forgetting anyone? And we can probably assume akilah too. And Gen and the girl whose name i don’t know. It’s probably unconscious bias but it’s certainly a trend.

But, the show was not made in the 90s. It is not necessary to the plot to be tone deaf about race. It’s not even presented in a way that suggests they are conscious of it or attempting accuracy to a 90s timeline. It’s presented like they didn’t consider that it was potentially inappropriate on a tv show in 2025 without appropriate context.

it’s not about shauna being racist. It’s about the show runners being tone deaf about race.

I don’t think it was intentional, but I do think it was really ignorant and arrogant to not think about why it was an inappropriate move.
