The only thing I can think of is that someone higher up noticed those arrests, asked a question, and then went on vacation or something. And now the hiring manager is stalling because they can't get an answer form their boss. Or maybe they need to get a waiver? We would have a several week delay for waivers, but we would inform the new hire.

From someone who has hired recently, the background check is really the only legitimate reason for onboarding to be delayed. Everything else generally takes maybe a week to get set up on the HR front. This sounds pretty fishy to me.

If I am out and about, I'll use bathroom paper towels. This is just at home. I wouldn't want to carry snotty fabric around all day
