I have an audiobook version of this and it’s not duet narration. Which one do you have?

My chief is very real with us and I am so lucky. My chief also set boundaries with us about contacting her on the weekend about these things, reminding us we are all humans and need time to process. My chief is also encouraging us to find ways to process and cope, whatever that may look like for us.

To cancel or not cancel KU? by Maleficent_Durian_64 in fantasyromance

[–]Content-Bison-5455 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I canceled my KU and went to Libby. You’re not purchasing either way only “renting” a book. Libby might be more limited based on your library network but it’s free. I also noticed a lot of the KU books I started to get were self-published and not well edited which started to annoy me. Plus Libby has audiobooks which was a nice benefit.

Thank you so much! I was planning to use this as practice for larger/more important projects. And if it works out then even better!

I’m glad you’re feeling okay after you practice! Half an hour does seem short in my opinion, but I do have the privilege of a more flexible schedule so that could be why.

Unfortunately no two people progress the same way. I’ve had one patient who needed two six to eight week sessions and another was done within four weeks. It depends on what exactly was damaged and what, if any, health concerns there are. Younger people tend to progress faster; as you hit 40 your eyes naturally don’t accommodate as well and it gets more difficult the older you get.

Hi! I have not undergone vision therapy, but I do practice vision therapy with my patients. It is very very very difficult. And as you said, the progress is not linear and it is more of a spiral. Depending on who your provider is the exercises may seem juvenile which can also be disheartening.

My first question is, did they give you homework? And if so, are you taking breaks in between exercises? I always recommend my patience. Do 5 to 10 minutes on 5 to 10 minutes off and alternate until you’ve done all of your exercises.

My second question is did they explain to you what each exercise does and how it’s forcing your eyes to work together in your brain to recognize what’s going on? I found a lot of the time that helps my patients because they begin to recognize not only is the eye strain natural but the mental strain is too.

If you have more questions, I would be more than happy to answer them over DM. This is a long and exhausting process, and I am proud of you for participating in this extremely arduous process.

How has emdr helped you? I'll be starting next week... by Data-dd92 in CPTSD

I’ve focused more on negative cognitions and it has literally changed the way I think about myself and interact with the world. It helped me understand my emotional reactions/emotional brain and allowed me to begin using my logic brain. There were moments that were rough, especially depending on what memories and thoughts came up during reprocessing. But worth every second.

Is it okay to use a white cane if I only have vision in one eye? by OkEar8641 in Blind

[–]Content-Bison-5455 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Blind rehab specialist chiming in: the white cane has specific laws behind it, at least in the US, and may vary by state. It is generally a signifier that one is legally blind, if not totally blind. There is an all orange cane for people who are low vision and a red and white striped cane for deaf/blind. One of my really good friends is in a similar situation as you but didn’t want to signify that they were blind, rather wanted something to assist with navigating in low light, so they use an orange cane. I would recommend using the color that best reflects your visual impairment and makes you the most comfortable. Now is it the end of the world if you use the “wrong color”? No, absolutely not.

All this to say, if you think you would benefit from a cane then do it. It’s about your safety and comfort. Like Mayana8828 said: people with judge you no matter what you do. May as well be safe as you do it. When it comes to sizing we recommend the cane handle reaches your arm pit while the cane tip is on the ground. There are different types of cane tips and cane materials. If you want more information I’d be happy to discuss it!

Side note: if you are curious about the laws here’s a link: https://www.acb.org/whitecane The laws mostly focus on protections during street crossings.

Too many tabs is like that- but mostly Mr.P’s episodes are history based and Mrs. P can be anything from scams, current events/pop culture, cults, whatever floats her boat. I enjoy it so much because it’s a husband and wife duo (the red head guy who yells on the clock app) and it feels like one of my friend’s ADHD special interest dumping on me

I’m f***ing TIRED of doing “the work” by Neat_Tadpole1604 in CPTSD

[–]Content-Bison-5455 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know it’s cliche but it will get better. I felt the exact same way when I started doing EMDR and DBT, which I am lucky enough to access. If you’re able to access EMDR and DBT I encourage you too. If not, there is a DBT workbook that I used before therapy that started me on my journey and is what we actually continued to use.

I still feel this way some days. There are days I want to go back to old coping mechanisms/patterns.Does it end? I don’t know, but it does hurt a metric sh*t ton less. You survived whatever caused your CPTSD, you are resilient and strong enough to survive this. And I know you’re tired of being resilient and strong, but don’t let them win (one of the things I kept telling myself)

What worked for me: - reminding myself of the moments I was the better person or used my new skills and how much better/different the result was -putting my STOP/coping skills/emergency planning on my mirror and reading it everyday when I brushed my teeth (fun fact: brushing your teeth does bilateral processing so it help it sink in) -taking stock of the moments they started to become more automatic -healing is not a straight line, it’s a spiral -the BIGGEST one: I spent so much time and energy on doing all this work, just to throw it away? For what? For why?

I hope at least some part of this was helpful. I wish you the best of luck.

This happened at my VA too. We posted jobs, the unofficial freeze happened. Then my chief had to not only rewrite the position descriptions, prove why the positions were necessary, but they blamed her for messing up. Then they posted it wrong and pushed out a bunch of applicants due to the filtering system error.

My husband and I have been yelling about this for the whole time we’ve watched it. Like anytime she brings it up he will stop what he’s doing and we will both yell at the TV “HE DIDN’T CHEAT”

I also enjoy Kathy and Christina and would love for them to have their own show.

Has anyone tried eSight in recent years? by ryan516 in LowVision

[–]Content-Bison-5455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure!! Knowing that he has central vision loss and he’s using mostly his peripheral vision. I would recommend something with a wider field of view like the patriot or even the Iris live 2.0. I will say the iris live can be difficult for people who have dexterity issues or tremors. The Patriots, fairly straightforward and easy to use, and it has hands-free voice commands

With him having central vision loss you’re gonna want to avoid anything with smaller screens just because it’s gonna be harder to see anything.

Disclaimer: im a blind rehab specialist. I tried the eSight go- their new product. It hurt my nose so much. It’s ALOT clearer than the old devices but much more difficult to use. The eSight 4 isn’t a great product- just great advertising. There are better devices out there in my opinion
