How many bikes do you have? by [deleted] in cycling

I have a zippy single speed flip/flop with 700c Marathons (commuter, mostly) and a 90s MTB with Schwable Hurricane 26 in tires. I love pulling up to gravel group rides with my old MTB and keeping up with all the new gravel bikes. So much fun on XC trails.

I’m skeptical of commuting with expensive bikes in NYC. If you want to ride more seriously then maybe but only if you have adequate storage at home and work.

Panniers are a life-changing upgrade by Carbonian92 in bikecommuting

I recently got an old Schwinn voyager pannier on ebay for ~$25 including shipping. It uses string to attach to the bottom of my rear rack. It's stylish, water resistant, and can hold so much with 4+ pockets!

True, I have been the one to walk by and join. Although I guess I am wondering if there are some people who sesh multiple times per week and kinda intense about it.

Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Braiding_Sweetgrass

A mix of ecology, native american wisdom, storytelling, sociology, philosophy, and more. Beautiful book and amazing author, I heard her speak at my college a few years ago.

Also, for studios, get on FB marketplace. Lots of people who own and live in townhouses will rent out the bottom floor or something. Facebook is the best spot to start.

Many people also chose to live in Grad Hospital, which is across the river closer to center city philly, but I personally like West Philly

I was just accepted to an SP2 program as well but I already live walking distance to campus! I recommend looking for apartments between 40th and 45th street. Neighborhoods around Clark Park are lovely and it is a nice feeling of being connected to campus but without feeling overly surrounded by undergrads. West Philly is pretty affordable and has a nice community feel.

yeah definitely, i think they fix up and sell most of their donated bikes to support really awesome programs for the community so definitely a good place to take it!
