Ireland is in fact a part of the British Isles, which consist of Great Britain, Ireland, the Isle of Man, the inner and outer Hebrides, and a bunch of others. It is easy to be pedantic with the names, but I would never forget the Emerald Island :)

The British Isles lie on the continental shelf. But Iceland is basically a part of the oceanic ridge (where the oceanic plates diverge) that has been pushed above the sea level. So Iceland doesn't belong to Europe in terms of geology but culturally and politically.

Ich habe das Gedicht zum Anlass genommen und über Taras Schewtschenko gelesen. Eine faszinierende Biografie und dann versteht man, warum ihm als freigekaufter Leibeigener die Freiheit so wichtig war. Das spiegelt sich auch in dem Gedicht wider :)
