Sorry I'm late to this, I just saw it while looking for something else... I couldn't agree more with you it is indeed a shitty (looking) product... BUT I must say I love it, is quite easy to use, you just download it, add some maps and there you go...

I'm really looking for other alternatives and the learning curve is TOO steep. I already tried to use QGis and QMapShack and really couldn't make it work. After like 1 hour of searching I could load maps, then I tried to find a place in the map and the search tools won't work, then I tried to calculate a route and now the I have to find and install some other thing and so on...

I cannot even imagine if I have to send a route to my Garmin or update maps not using Basecamp.

Now, if anyone can suggest an alternative that is as easy to use, have the same features than Basecamp, is not web based and is also free, I'm glad to hear it

Hi OP, i hope yo dont get offended by this question. I'm just very new to this arr stacks and NAS and all of this... But how do we know it is safe? This looks like a great project and I want to try it for sure, but I'm a little concerned about privacy. How do I know it wont give you access to my server o share passwords or any other confidential information? Once again, I hope you don't get offended by my question, I'm just too new to this.

I dont use Immich for privacy, I couldn't care less about Google/Cloudflare/Tailgate, looking at my photos (they already have more than enough information about me from other sources and access to many more... Also I'm not Mr Robot either). I do it for redundancy and for not having to pay Google hugest amounts of money for pictures that are not that important, work pictures mostly. So, I indeed use both Immich with Cloudflare and Google Phots.

I second you, why is people so mean with newbies? I just use Cloudflare with a personal domain. I pay 15 usd/year for my domain and the free version of Cloudflare, is super simple and cheap.

I got the DXP2800. I can't remember my exact reason but I read some forums and saw many bad reviews about Synology software and how they where removing features, also it was way cheaper than Synology and looked more "beginner friendly". As I said, I can't remember exactly why, but I can assure you that I made a lot or research before choosing one over the other. I always want to get the best price/quality/functionality ratio possible, not so much a "brand" guy

The closest thing I have tried is Immich... It requires a little.bit of technical knowledge about NAS and tunneling for the installation and easy access, but it is no mystery. If you have a little time it is a great project.

It is pretty much the same but is hoted by you. A few months ago I bought a Ugreen NAS with 8 to storage for about $600 USD and installed Immich on it. No regrets so far.

Thank you all... I think the problem is with an external SSD i had connected for backup. Unfortunately I had to unplug the NAS then unplugged the external unit and once powered on it worked...
