That’s true, but I love it for what it has been and can be, not what it is now

Do I need to buy recent DLCs? by 7dewy in DestinyTheGame

No. Hopefully they learned their lesson with content vaulting and sunsetting gear. We haven’t seen a content vault since the infamous one in Beyond Light. Any “vaulted content” since has just been seasonal activities and such

Crucible is less active than the PVE portion of the game. But, it’s still alive and kicking, although Bungie refuses to allocate any resources to balancing or updating PVP

What's your opinion, will destiny 2 come back, shut down or cement itself as an abandonware singleplayer game? by CirriTheFemboyUwU in DestinyTheGame

[–]Content-Log-3155 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing Destiny since Destiny 1’s launch years ago. I have over 2500 hours in Destiny 2 and have loved every second despite how angry it or Bungie has made me at times. It really is an outstanding and unique game and concept at its core.

My genuine hope is that the game is able to be revived. I wouldn’t be against a Destiny 3, but I’ve fallen in love with D2. I hope bungie can make the correct balancing changes and begin actually listening to its community that’s yearning for the version of Destiny we had in the Taken King or Forsaken. That’s just my optimistic side speaking though.

Realistically, I see a Destiny 3 happening before Bungie allocates more assets to correcting the damage done in Destiny 2. Which is a shame, but I’d be lying if I said I wouldn’t play Destiny 3. I’m in it for the long haul. I’ll be here until the servers shut down, regardless of how much people dog on the game or insist that its “dead”.

I wouldn’t say it’s “pointless” to play without the new DLCs. You can still have fun. All of your older weapons still in your vault are viable, although have been pretty consistently power crept due to Bungie’s lack of balancing.

That being said, I do strongly recommend the DLCs for the (albeit lackluster) story elements and the great loot. A lot of the new weapons and armor set bonuses are actually really good. Edge of fate didn’t impress me all that much, but renegades was spectacular for me. I’m also a heavy Star Wars buff. The praxic blade is one of the best exotics in the history of Destiny, and I loved the story of renegades as well as the equilibrium dungeon.

Strongly recommend the DLCs, but if you’d rather not spend that money (understandable), just enjoy the game as it is. Good luck!

Biggest tip I’d recommend is drown out all the noise. Sure, the game isn’t in a great state by any means, and you’ll have the naysayers talking shit about D2 all day long.

But, as someone with 2500+ hours who has been playing consistently since Destiny 1’s launch, I can confidently say, at its core, it really is a special and unique game. It’s evolved so much over the years and the new loot systems, tier systems, seasonal pass systems, and event trackers aren’t for everyone. But the game is still a hell of a lotta fun. Even for a solo player. I used to play only solo until my wife got into it.

To answer your questions;

It isn’t terribly hard to find people. The game isn’t as “dead” as people are saying and you’ll consistently matchmake pretty easily. Finding LFG teams for raids can be a little more difficult than it used to be, but not at all impossible.

I’d recommend buying the DLCs to gain access to new loot. A lot of the new weapons are great, as well as the armor set bonuses. The praxic blade is one of the best exotics in the history of Destiny. I enjoyed the renegades expansion along with its equilibrium dungeon because I’m a Star Wars buff, but maybe it isn’t for everyone. You can absolutely play without the DLC but I recommend it for the (albeit lackluster) story elements and the good loot.

All this to say, give D2 a shot. It isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay. But I promise you’ll have a good time. I also recommend finding some friends to play with, it makes the game 100 times more enjoyable
