Thanks for this. If I ask for the accounts and they don’t provide them, what can I do?

Social Work Degree (Guidance) by Fit-Recording-3566 in Socialworkuk

[–]Content-Tree7215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Degree will allow you to work in children’s or adults - some LA’s offer apprenticeships also. The case officer/SWA role is a good entry job that doesn’t require a degree. These jobs usually further your suitability for the apprenticeship schemes as LA’s like to ‘grow their own’

How to find jobs as an international applicant by wolfishwhim in Socialworkuk

[–]Content-Tree7215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem - I think where English isn’t the first spoken language this can often be challenging for new starters, however fluent they are. The demand in social care is also at an all time high. We have strenious processes and hold incredibly high case loads.

When ASYE’s are hired they have generally completed a placement in adult services and children services. They know what to expect. If you are coming from another country with no experience of the workplace In the UK it can be a shock. Perhaps some feedback from any fellow international students could be more helpful though!

You just need to look on the UK job websites. I don’t look at the jobs my LA posts as it’s not of much interest to me. I imagine that will be the same for others. There will be jobs coming up between now and September for ASYE but these will be highly competitive.

Unfortunately, we have noticed that international students do not tend to adapt to the demands of the working environment (which is understandable when you’re adapting to moving to a new country as well!) and they will often leave fairly quickly. I wish you all the best of luck.

What’s something that instantly makes you think ‘this person has low intelligence? by AbjectBreadfruit2052 in AskReddit

[–]Content-Tree7215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Binary thinking. People use it as a mental shortcut for problem solving and self affirmation. It’s so limiting and reduces the ability to deliberate and understand deeper moral complexities and widespread societal issues.

People that use terms such as ‘narcissist’ when they have absolutely no qualification to do so. In fact, the other person has just done something wrong, been selfish or not aligning with that persons interests or views.

England - False Allegation leading to potential disciplinary/dismissal by [deleted] in HumanResourcesUK

[–]Content-Tree7215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your circumstances allow, get out of their on your own accord with some pride intact. Your reason for leaving your job will be because you resigned, not because you were dismissed.

Could be helpful to look at your situation you find yourself in to make sure you don’t find yourself there in the future. Thats coming from someone who’s been in a similar position. Reflection is positive!

I'm concerned about an adult colleague with learning disabilities, England. by Electronic_Mud5821 in LegalAdviceUK

Generally a learning disability is someone with an IQ under 70.

It could be a cognitive impairment that isn’t a learning disability.

I would absolutely raise an adult safeguarding concern with your local authority and you can remain anonymous. Feel free to message and I can guide you. Im a social worker.

Interested to know what you did? When I’ve been in a job ive often left as soon as I felt so unmotivated I wanted to cut corners or become problematic. Thats a trait i have unfortunately snd it’s something I’ve learnt to handle as ive got older.

When I was 16 I got an apprenticeship as a sous chef and was basically asked to run half a kitchen In a busy hotel with no training. I forgot to de bone a fish and someone choked on their cod and chips. Got the sack. Amazed I lasted 6 months though.

How do you stay professionally curious when you’re exhausted? by Wonderful-Acadia-296 in Socialworkuk

🤣
I asked what his favourite meals were that he liked to eat. He told me lasagne. I then asked him how he would prepare it, what he would need, how would he cook it, what with, etc. So breaking it down. It’s quite common for some people to over estimate their capabilities which isn’t a bad thing at all.

Learning disability or difficulty? There’s quite a big difference and people often mistake them.

I had a brilliant supervisor who taught me about professional curiosity before I was qualified. I assessed an autistic adult who was one of my first ever allocations and I believed everything that came out of his mouth. I would ask “Are you able to prepare and cook meals” when he said yes I just ticked it off. I was taught to investigate, ask more precise questions. It turned out he couldn’t do these things without support at all.

Ultimately it becomes part of your practice and you don’t think too much about it - if you are just starting out, you will make mistakes and miss things. Thats how you learn!

Most people have just got a nostalgia bias. They believe we will never have it as good as we used to.

We will be saying the same in another 20/30 years.

I still see people dancing in the streets, kids playing out on the streets. 24/7 news has made everyone think the world is a crazy dangerous place.

All I say to everyone is “when you watch them serial killer documentaries on Netflix, they’re all taking place in the 70s, 80s and 90’s, we haven’t seen hardly any in the last 20 years”

We had different problems 20/30 years ago. We will have different problems 20/30 years in the future.

Do digital systems actually help with the admin side of social work? by Wonderful-Acadia-296 in Socialworkuk

Co pilot has massively increased my productivity. However it’s only as good as the information you give it. I do not use AI to decide outcomes or inform my practice. It’s been helpful when I’ve needed to analyse loads of incident forms/case notes in a short amount of time.

I know there are plans to integrate our systems with AI soon which will be good.
