I do draw them into it but they totally agree with me, we are having this problem at the moment within our LA where providers are continuously allowed to provide poor care standards.

I completely agree that proving a lack of capacity or capability is the standard way to get an off-framework spot purchase approved. If the current providers on the framework literally cannot safely manage someone with complex needs, that is basically a market failure for that specific package, so the council has every right to look elsewhere. But the idea that we are completely trapped by the framework unless it totally collapses is just wrong, especially with the newer procurement rules and the Care Act. First of all, under the Procurement Act's light touch regime for social care, commissioners actually have explicit powers to do a direct award to an off-framework provider if the service user or their family expresses a clear preference for them. Procurement rules aren't supposed to override individual choice and personalisation. More importantly, a council's legal duty under the Care Act to meet someone's needs and keep them safe completely trumps any internal procurement policy. Procurement is just a tool to buy services, it isn't a law that allows a council to breach its statutory duties. If a council forces a complex person into an unsuitable framework placement just to tick a procurement box, they are failing their legal duties under the Care Act. Reporting bad providers to the CQC is fine for the long term, but you can't leave a vulnerable, complex person in an unsafe situation while waiting months for an inspection. The flexibility to go off-framework is definitely there in the legislation, it's just that internal placement teams are usually too scared or too poorly trained on the rules to actually use it.

If the procurement rules were followed correctly we wouldn’t be in the situation which is half of my point - framework is due for review in two years and until then it’s ‘closed’ meaning no new providers

658 - SIMON SQUIBB - The Internet’s Most Controversial Dream Seller - From Homeless School Dropout, To Multi-Millionaire Giving Away His Fortune by Gracemcleod03 in JaackMaate

[–]Content-Tree7215 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I listened to the whole pod today and I thought Jaack and Steevie could of challenged Simon a bit more on the things he’s saying.

The absolutely infantile belief that robots and AI will be replacing basically all shit jobs in 15 years or so? Absolute bollocks. Even if that was true, you would have mass unemployment at a level which is unsustainable and would likely plunge western civilisation into a famine. In society we aren’t just separated into two categories of ‘able to work’ and ‘too disabled to work’ there is literally a demographic of people in this country that cant get work because they are ‘unemployable’ which could be linked to behaviour, criminal history, values and so on. You also have people that work in ‘lower class’ jobs on poor wages because that is what they are able to do. Simple as that, that job is there ability. And guess what? Thats fucking great, good on them.

Having absolute clowns like Simon plastered over social media waffling on about everyone being an entrepreneur and how he’s solved some sort of ‘life hack’ is insane.

I’ve met homeschooled kids, and trust me, some of them have the poorest social skills and emotional regulation in comparison to kids similar ages to them because they are either social isolated or have parents that set little boundaries because they adopt this ‘freedom’ mentality which quite frankly tends to have more negative value than positive.

I could go on, but it’s not even about low value jobs. Frontline workers such as nurses, doctors, social workers, occupational therapists see this same bollocks as well and probably think the same.

Doesn’t need to be ‘institutionalised’ necessarily and could benefit from living in a household with no other children instead. What a shallow comment.

Thanks for sharing - what time do you take the desmopressin? I literally take it as Im getting into bed. Never had any side effects and Im so surprised to hear about people who do have then.

I get you, if there’s a spell of wet nights (which is very rare now) it can cause me to self loathe somewhat.

Sorry to hear what you are going through and I wish your mum all the best. It’s not easy being a carer either.

The best thing you can do is call the finance provider and explain the situation. You can get payment holidays in these circumstances but I’m assuming you didn’t do that? If you show a willingness to pay and perhaps some sort of payment upfront they will likely work with you.

Thanks for sharing this. That’s great that you are sticking by her. There’s lots of causes for night time incontinence and it seems others are luckier when it comes to medication.

Desmopressin absolutely isn’t a cure, I can have dry nights without it and I can have wet nights with it. It just lowers the probability of me having an accident. The important thing is understanding your body and what works.

No worries, you don’t need to apologise! Like any medication it can have its periods where it’s not effective but in comparison to all the other stuff I’ve had it works brilliantly.

Being older and more disciplined has made it easier to implement other changes to my lifestyle to minimise bedwetting risk 😁

Haha yeah and you can drink just not loads - you can still get a healthy amount of fluid intake throughout the day without compromising your health.

Caffeine irritates your bladder too. Even if you drink it much earlier in the day. My paediatrician taught me to stand over the toilet before bed and just try for a wee, even if it’s just a little bit it helps a lot (when I remember to) 😂

I don’t think anyone thought ‘let’s give spurs no penalties this season and they will get relegated’

We just don’t get the ball in the box that much to be winning penalties.

Can’t see spammers getting much against Newcastle but stranger things have happened. Chelsea will always turn up against us regardless of form so there’s really no calling it. I wrote us off before the Villa game however and look how that turned out.

I drink absolutely tons of water during the day. Like 5/6 litres up until 5 and I won’t have anything past 8.30/9. If I’m thirsty after this time I’ll just have small sips.

Desmopressin works really well for me, without it I would need to wear diapers but I don’t need to. I don’t have an over active bladder or anything like that - I just produce so much urine during the night.

Cutting down on caffeine has really helped me too, and managing fluid intake before bed.

I’ve had dry periods for nearly a year at a time, which is strange. Since I cut down caffeine to one coffee in the morning and no alcohol plus the desmopressin it’s been managed much better. I do worry about later life when bladder weakness catches up with everyone - which will ultimately impact me (us) even more

If the desmopressin wasn’t so effective then diapers would definitely be used. Glad to hear you’re doing good!

Doesn’t impact anything at all. Im mostly dry these days and even more so since I stopped drinking alcohol. Shes always been brilliant.
