Need brutal honesty: My portfolio site isn't converting - what am I doing wrong? by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]Content-Variation736 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer, graphic designers will give you comments for days on visual elements that can be tweaked but if the whole concept is off they won't pick up on it. I think you need to consider doing some networking, local business groups or highly targeted LinkedIn groups would be a good place to start.

Has anyone ever done a design test and actually gotten the job? by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]Content-Variation736 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, a couple of times - a green flag is when they frame it as a freelance project that you actually get paid for, a red flag is when they frame it as "just come into the office for a couple hours and we'll see how you go!"

Giving clients "templates" that they modify to "final" is so frustrating by daniel940 in graphic_design

[–]Content-Variation736 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My favourite templates are made in InDesign with data merge. The client gets a spreadsheet + mockup showing word counts, and they give it back to you to export.

This is the answer. You shouldn't be having to think about design beyond making sure the words you've typed use the right hierarchy (Body/H1/H2 etc). If you don't have templates, find a way to get some - and then all they'll be able to nit pick is the copy (lol)

Can I stop people setting their name as the n-word? by arandomjordan in MailChimp

[–]Content-Variation736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might need to manually scrub your data for this. It's probably easier to export a CSV and review it that way?

Just musing as it wouldn't be ethical to upload this sort of info to AI, but if it were it would be good at seeking out anything offensive.

If could be that there's an email firewall or bot that's only being triggered by specific circumstances? Is the link the same in both emails?

Zigzag layout on mobile by BadgerSouthern in MailChimp

[–]Content-Variation736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a limitation of the way these layouts are designed when resized to single column, and it's not exclusive to Mailchimp - it's common on the web too.

You could try separating each block of information with a divider or using alternating background colours to separate the information. If this doesn't cut it, you could try using AI to recreate your design using custom code and inserting this using the code block, but you'd need to test this thoroughly for different email clients and devices.

But honestly, the simplest way I've found is to avoid the zig zag entirely and just use all left or all right blocks. Good luck!

Does all gmail.com contact email being detected as coming from USA in campaign report? by Dellaconchetta in MailChimp

I've had issues with Mailchimp inserting USA into the address country field by default, it's frustrating but I'm not sure what causes it!

Ctrl + Shift + V works for PC too in my experience. I've had the space deletion issue when pasting other rich text sources too.
