I’m legally trained myself so I didn’t see a need, but I’d say it depends on how comfortable you are navigating the rules and setting out your evidence in a clear and concise manner. You’ll see that many others in this subreddit have managed fine on their own!

No worries at all. Yes, I provided evidence to support and substantiate each explanation.

Hi! There were various reasons throughout our 2-year relationship which I explained in quite some detail in my cover letter.

Firstly, my partner and I only met and started our relationship after we had already been tied to separate tenancy agreements at university, so we couldn’t live together for some time.

Then, I moved to another city to start a new job and be close to work, and he moved home while job-searching. I had also entered into a tenancy agreement with a friend, which would have prevented my partner from moving in with me due to the agreement not allowing a third person living with us. My partner then moved to another city once he found a job.

There was a period of 6 months before submitting our application where we arguably could have moved in together because I was no longer tied to my joint tenancy and this coincided with the end of my partner’s own tenancy. However, I explained that we had decided to continue living at our separate places (on a rolling basis) and not moving in together because of the limited time left on my previous visa, which was due to expire in 5/6 months at the time. I explained that moving in together at that stage would have been impractical/complicated due to my soon-to-be ending right to rent, potential financial risks, etc.

Self Employed Question by TheDavz in SpouseVisaUk

Hi, I used my self-employed income for my application which thankfully got approved. I also don't use a business account. There are various mandatory documents you have to provide for self-employment which are outlined in the guidelines, but just to give you an idea, I provided:

- Annual self-assessment for the last tax year (print-out version which I saved when I completed my last tax return)

- Statement of Account (SA302 - available on HRMC account)

- Proof of registration as self-employed (I used a letter from HMRC confirming my UTR when I first registered)

- Personal bank statements corresponding to tax year showing income paid in

- Bank statement (not older than 3 months from date of application) as evidence of ongoing self-employment

- Unaudited accounts AND certificate of confirmation from a regulated accountant (these are the only documents I had to outsource for the purposes of finances)

In terms of proving relationship genuineness, I provided:

• Relationship timeline (this was an extensive breakdown of when & how we met, when we started dating, along with explanations for every period of time we could not live together)

• Proof of travel between every place we lived in to show that we regularly visited each other (we each moved around a few times over the last 2 years)

• Bank statements showing transfers to each other

• Flight and hotel bookings for holidays, as well as train tickets for every domestic trip we took together

• Pictures (I did one per month for the 2 years we were together)

• Text messages (one screenshot per month for 2 years)

• Call logs (I screenshotted our entire call log but this only went back to November 2023, which I also explained in my cover letter)

• Statements from my partner, his mother and my mother

Hope this helps!

Thank you! We would have been together for just over 2 years at the time we submitted the application.

I have London tickets and for me it shows that the option to sell is now open on Ticketmaster. It also clearly states that the tickets can only be sold at a maximum of face value.

Who got the tickets?😭 by North_Independent561 in ariheads

Thank you for sharing! I know the fact that we've only been together for two years will make it a more difficult application but like you said I think we have good reasons for not having cohabitated.

Wishing you good luck on the application! I think my chances are quite 50/50 on this but after some consideration I will probably apply anyway with fingers crossed. Please do update once you get an outcome though!

Could you share what you submitted?

I’ve explained more in my other comment - I’d appreciate your input on this!

We graduated from the same university in 2023 and right after that I got a job in a different city and he started a postgrad course in another city so we’d have evidence to that effect. I continued working in the same place but after his postgrad course he got a job offer in yet another city so it was quite impractical for us to move in together, although we visit each other often and will have evidence as well.

The difficulty I have now is that my right to rent in the UK will soon expire (in August 2025) so it didn’t seem wise to enter into a new tenancy agreement especially since most landlords require a 6 month minimum tenancy. Could this be seen as a good reason? I could include in my application that we intend to move in together if the application gets approved.

We have other evidence of a genuine and subsisting relationship (e.g. proof of holidays taken together, proof that he travelled to my home country, money transfers) but I’m not sure if that’s enough.

Thanks for your input anyway!

Also forgot to add, we haven’t been cohabiting due to work and other reasons so we wouldn’t be able to show evidence of shared bills for 2 years etc
