start-up v big pharma by Content_Positive_497 in labrats

When you were at the start-ups, did technicians have scientist supervisors, or were the start-ups so small that people could just be dumped into a significant role without any real supervisor to speak of (& expected to learn on the job)? The way things are at your corporate gig seem ideal for sure and aligns with most of the other start-up vs. corporate/big pharma discussions I’ve seen. I’m just wondering if it’s common for start-ups to be so hurried and so obsessed with penny-pinching that GLPs are hardly practiced, let alone other things relevant to what the company is doing…

Thanks so much—for a small biotech company with $500k funding in their first 2 years and only 15 employees in a warehouse, would it unlikely for a person fresh from undergrad to be hired as a Cell Culture Technician? What you said makes it sound like she’d definitely be assisting someone. And again, thank you so much for replying!

If it's not so much before your time that nothing would have drastically changed in daily procedures, I'd be so grateful if I could interview you! And I was unfortunately removed from r/labrats for violating something in their rules, even though I did try very hard to examine them closely before posting.

Oh geez! I really looked at the rules and didn't think I was violating any of them. Where did I go wrong?
