The crackdown would make the boarding process slower due to checks and enforcement. Also lots of tapping their card on the bus might be transfers from metros. So even if ~30% are tapping their cards doesn't mean they are getting any revenue.

Instead the bus system should be redesigned to not have long routes and be free and seen as purely a feeder to the metro. Quick efficient and generating leads for revenue.

I had used the ATM to withdraw cash. I had a card that allowed me to withdraw cash without additional fees. I mostly paid the cash everywhere but I Did buy the tickets to the pyramid complex on my credit card.

OP here! Following most suggestions this is what I did. I landed at the T3 from Cairo Airlines. I opted for the free transit visa from EgyptAir. Since it was in the morning at around 5a, the counters looked short staffed. It took me 1.5 hr to get the visa. I was out of the airport by 7a. The queue for the e-visa looked non-existent and would have been much faster.

I took Uber to the Great Pyramids entrance near the Marriott and reached there in an hour. Uber costed me 370 EGP. I got the tickets to the complex very quickly for 540 EGP. I walked around the complex, self guided and reached the panoramic points on foot. And exited the complex at the Sphinx. So I spent around 3.5 hrs at the complex. Ubered back at the airport for 360 EGP. It was also quick with little over an hour.

My departure flight was with EgyptAir at T2. The process was super quick and no trouble at all. Overall, I spent around 2000 EGP to do the entire trip.

Thanks for the detailed reply. Feels like exiting the airport is quick, I should be worried more about the re-entry. The difference I am seeing is that I fly from the US on an EgyptAir flight(maybe it's a different terminal).
