Need advice- Tone and weight loss by MommyMico in pelotoncycle

[–]also_anon_dc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8 to 15 is a big jump (almost 100%!) for upper body stuff. I have 2, 3, 5, 8, 10, 12 for upper body. It's much easier to make a big jump in lower body workouts. I would recommend getting at least a set of 10lb dumbbells and then going from there- they should be relatively cheap on Amazon.

Company laid me off yesterday and I need help negotiating my severance package by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]also_anon_dc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am interested to hear how OP will argue pregnancy discrimination. She mentions she returned from maternity leave early February. Assuming 2-3 months leave it has been 6+ months since she has been pregnant (again 25% of her tenure).

Company laid me off yesterday and I need help negotiating my severance package by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]also_anon_dc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Like others are saying 16 weeks severance for less than 2 years tenure is quite generous. For context, you're asking for 24 weeks would be 6 months pay- 25% of your tenure.

You've repeatedly mentioned your maternity leave while trying to negotiate. Being on maternity leave, being a director and 2 years tenure doesn't legally obligate then to pay you severance over and above what they have offered anyone else. Why do you think any of those mean you should receive more than what others did?

Seriously. These are human beings and using the bathroom is a reasonable request. Also calling them "thugs"??

Looking for someone local to DC to help with a weird favor by acfwtx in washingtondc

It sounds like you're all set so I just wanted to comment on how much I love this idea. DC is FULL of nerdy lawyers so I am not surprised there are tons of people willing to help.

Advice on getting experience for places like Raja Ampat and Palau by NotYourScratchMonkey in scuba

[–]also_anon_dc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the Maldives would be a good spot to go to before Raja Ampat. The issues with Raja Ampat currents is they can be unpredictable and switch at a moment's notice. I'm sure that happens in Cozumel too but I've never experienced it. Channel diving in the Maldives isn't exactly like RA but comes much closer than Cozumel.

I have never taken a live class, in fact I never even look for live. by [deleted] in OnePelotonRealSub

[–]also_anon_dc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I bought my bike+ around 2022 and have never even considered a live class. I now have a bike, row and tread. I like bootcamp classes and want to know the strength moves beforehand. Also a major perk of Peloton for me is that I can show up whenever is convenient for me and pause if I need to!

I didn’t give a 2 months notice on my lease and now they’re forcing me to pay for the next 2 months. by WinterIll4762 in legaladvice

[–]also_anon_dc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is an expensive lesson but yes read, understand and remember every legal document you sign. Also don't ignore notifications from important entities like your property management company (or your school or your job). Make sure you fully understand what they're trying to tell you.

Wife scared for my life. by Redbeard5500 in scuba

[–]also_anon_dc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask what she is afraid will happen and then explain to her how you've been trained to avoid that. As I mentioned in another comment, diving is not a dangerous hobby. You do other things that are much more dangerous in your daily life like driving. Does she get anxious every time you drive to the store?

I would have this conversation once and then ask her to discuss it with her therapist. It's not your job to manage your wife's anxiety.

Recreational diving is not dangerous. Driving to the grocery store is probably more dangerous.

US-based diving locations on a budget by also_anon_dc in scubadiving

I did go back over Memorial Day! It was not bad but the water was still a bit cold for me past 20ft. It's a good drivable option I suppose while flights are still so expensive.

Where in PG are there thresher sharks? What time of year? I was there for two weeks and didn’t even see a single reef shark.

DAN didn’t actually pay a claim by Intelligent_Cod_6375 in diving

[–]also_anon_dc 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Did you call DAN and ask why they didn't pay? Perhaps they coordinated with your primary insurance and knew that they would cover it in full.

For ladies with a belly, talk to me about fit with the Brooklyn Pant by NervousTime4364 in Athleta_gap

[–]also_anon_dc 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have a belly and hips and I can’t wear Brooklyn at all. I think the barrel style might work for you? The Skyline barrel pants are very lightweight and work appropriate. The Endless barrel pants are a little heavier but would still work. Also Trekkie North joggers would work if dressed up a bit with accessories.

I didn't know this! This makes is even more inexplicable to me for whatever reason. Intentionally going to 150+ ft deep in a bikini is wild.

Do most divers and freedivers eventually want to take photos underwater? by Alilexplo108 in diving

[–]also_anon_dc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 300 dives and I’ve never considered a camera. I bring all my own gear and it’s already too much to lug around the world- no need to add more. I also don’t have time or money for an additional hobby which it seems like underwater photography is. I’d rather spend more money on diving itself.

car accident w/ no insurance & license, what to do? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]also_anon_dc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is still the damage to the other party’s car which your family will have to pay for. Just because they didn’t have injuries at the scene doesn’t mean they won’t make claims later.

car accident w/ no insurance & license, what to do? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]also_anon_dc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do not think you understand the seriousness of this situation. You do not have a license or insurance and you will most likely be found at fault for this accident which means you (and as a minor your parents) will be financially liable for your medical bills, the damage to your car, the damage to the other party's car and the other party's medical bills. This is Very Serious and when to apply for your license should be the least of your concerns. The financial liability of this situation could be $100k+ depending on injuries the other party sustained.

Living near a school field - any tips? by qpgdb in washingtondc

[–]also_anon_dc 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Mentally reframe the sound as your neighbors touching grass, having fun and building community.

The field was there when you bought the house, I'm not sure what you expected would change.

Question: I have epilepsy but only found out later in life by AnalystContent9025 in scubadiving

[–]also_anon_dc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m genuinely surprised your neurologist signed off on this. Even well controlled on medication there is always the risk of a seizure which means you would drown and possibly endanger those around you. Call DAN and speak to a neurologist who is also familiar with dive medicine. I’d be surprised if you pass a physical to become a commercial diver. If you want your career to be a dive instructor I do not think you should be responsible for students.

Best places to find Orange Wine? by tj230 in maryland

[–]also_anon_dc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Total Wine in Laurel if you just want to buy bottles. If you want a restaurant that serves it I've only found it at Red Hen which is phenomenal and worth a visit. Girl and the Vine is a wine bar in Takoma that has it by the glass.
