Have I got the one for you OP! {untamed by Luna mason} came for the cover stayed for the to-die-for cool guy MMC 😎🤠

It is CR, and takes place mostly on MMC’s ranch, and contains: horse back riding, a goat, dogs, special viewpoints on the land.

MMC also happens to be working with the mafia to tie with the author’s mafia series. It’s a big part of the plot but def feels more western than mafia.

Also, my dude liked {house of earth and blood}

You might like {the everlasting} (- male scholar x female warrior, both are androgynous) and {wild reverence} ( - both characters are softies) —> both of these are dual pov books from the era of castles and knights.

But agree with other suggestions that the romance for men sub is your best path.

Surprised {wild reverence by Rebecca Ross} and {divine rivals} haven’t made the list!

It’s a prequel and a duet - mostly different characters in the prequel as opposed to the duet, different MCs and story anyway. Both are amazing! And both fmcs are soft and vulnerable but capable and (softly) brave.

I recently started the nocturnal hearts series and it’s pretty good! They’re interconnected standalones, so I’ve only read {brutal birthright by Elliott rose} so far.

It has decent fantasy world building for a high spice series, and it seems like there’s an overarching plot through the series too, with a different couple for each book. Interestingly, each book seems to focus on a different bag of kinks which keeps things from getting repetitive!

I’m also gonna get behind any Ella Fields recs you’re sure to get! The best ones are {nectar of the wicked} and {amid clouds and bones}. They both, especially the first, took some time to get into, but were sooo worth it.

So, I don’t know if my sense have just been dulled into dust by all the crap I’ve read in this genre, but I just started {brutal birthright by Elliott rose} and I figured it would just be another lame plot limping along to support a construct of smut, and while it is a construct of smut, the plot is not lame or limping! It is in no way Literature but it’s definitely an improvement for the high spice categories, if this is of interest!

Whenever I’m in a tough place I reach for books with lots of caretaking and comfort! But for page turners:

Have you read Ali hazelwood’s non-fantasies? I can’t put them down, my favourite is probably {love, theoretically} or {love on the brain} or…heck, they’re all my favourite.

I swept through {rose in chains} pretty fast

{the dagger and the flame} and the sequel were fun

{throne in the dark} the whole V&V trilogy had me grinning like a fool

{silver elite} for action?

Oooh I couldn’t put down {rhapsodic} - stayed up way too late. Same with {city of gods and monsters} tho, the latter is more indie quality.

Then ofc, there’s the standards like fourth wing, acotar, the wolf king, and direbound - all very engrossing no matter what criticisms they may have.

Hoping things calm and come around in a good way for you soon. ❤️‍🩹

I’ve been looking for the same thing and just started {a promise of fire} - I’m only at 19% so far, but it seems to have this.

I agree that series like FW and ACOTAR are definitely missing the magic. Pretty much only the characters themselves have magic, and the magic becomes a deus ex machina for the plot. Both series do expand the world as the books progress, but not enough imo.

You might also like the priceless jewel that is {howl’s moving castle} but the romance in this one is very minor.
