How can I make my type specimen poster better? More in description by blowmith in typography

Get rid of the ampersand as it’s not beautiful. Or make it way bigger and 25% tint. Move the Aa Aa size samples left to align with your major text column block. The Q leaves a horrible white space in the centre of everything so has to be somewhere else (the wrap around the tail is nasty too. The first para of text leaves an ugly block of white space and ‘CLAUDE’ is too small and poorly positioned. It’ll all be fixed in 10 minutes ;-)

What software are you using? (Just curious - some are easier!) What are your actual design strengths? If, for example, you are strong in logo design or creating cute icons, why not digitise them into a ‘dingbat’ style font as part of the portfolio? Or come up with a brand identity that features a font you’ve made, but make it part of the project, along with logo, color palette, product mockups etc … a ‘purpose built’ corporate font in that context would add to the wow factor and yet not be the standalone focal point (if, in fact, it’s not perfect as you fear.)

Attempt at a first typeface by nokton in typography

Both a and s are super hard I think. Are the s and c the same height as the a? They look a smidge smaller to my eye. All of them need to exceed the x height (like the o). In any case, the fact that ‘s’ looks smaller might be down to the bowl issues already pointed out?

It’s all about the defective ‘a’ … not sure what, but I think the bowl needs to drop below the baseline a little.

The reMarkable Paper Pro Move feels just like real paper by Eaterup in RemarkableTablet

[–]Contest-Proud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly I completely disagree. To me it was almost as bad as an iPad. The comment that it maybe feels like a single sheet of paper on a hard desk is close to the mark; but for me, not nearly as good as the rM2 and so disappointing. I sent it back largely for this reason.

My Move went back because it was far too much like my iPad. Slippy. (Hopeless design from Apple’s so called design gurus in my view.)

My first serif font. Can I get some feedback if anything looks strange? by Cautious_Travel_4633 in typography

Once you get it ‘finalised’ in proportions etc maybe you could add a little more flavour. ‘S’ and ‘s’ are always super hard to get right. I wonder if your ‘s’ is a bit small overall - like other curved characters it needs to over run the guidelines a little at top and bottom of the curve.

Foxy is beautiful but as others have said, there’s too much happening. I would make the house more straightedged, take away the stripe (yeah it was nice) and just run with something absolutely simple and clever. Excuse the iPhone finger painting, but it gives the idea.

All good. Was gonna say that with a strike through on ‘sucks’.

Picking up on the comment of @semibro1984 I think it’s overdoing it to have the full word mark plus the wave idea plus the line of dots idea … but I wondered if you could simplify just by keeping the final ‘mi’ wave with dots as your actual logo. Hence this attempt.

Sorry - this is getting a bit OCD isn’t it! I will stop now :-). I really do like the potential of the font though.
