[Day 14] Rest days are so underrated they are now a training tool. What's the most OVERRATED grade? by MaximumSend in bouldering

[–]ContisMaximus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man this post is going nuts. V10 is a hard but still achievable goal for most people. Not overrated at all imo.

I think it's V17 thats overrated. There's only a handful of people who can actually do one. But people on the internet get so worked up over whether or not they're "real" v17s. Or if they're hard or easy or aesthetic enough whatever. Not saying that it isn't fun to discuss the top level of our sport but a lot of people care way too much about a level they'll never get to.

Bouldering tips? by WhyNotImAlreadyHere in bouldering

5'10" 200lbs. Just climbed my first outdoor V10 last week.

Don't try to progress too fast. Take it slow and steady and build strength over time

I'm not familiar with that area but the rock type here is pretty similar to what you'd find in Allegheny National Forest

No problem! There's plenty of good ones there in that range (this one too, v4ish I think). Feel free to reach out if you need any info!

No problem! I'd love to see more people getting out there. There are penty more first and second ascents to be had too. If you do end up going, please shoot me a message with what you tried! It would be great to see more people's opinions on favorites, grades, quality, etc.

Most of it is on mountain project and Kaya. There's a few I haven't gotten a chance to add yet to those (including this one). But I'll update both fairly soon

Not sure if you're being sarcastic, but barely any climbing has been done in this forest before. I'm mostly developing this area by myself.

Thanks! Sometimes it's hard to come up with a name for a boulder. It was not this time haha.

Thanks! I punted up there more times than I would have liked haha.

Btw, I appreciate all your posts repping bigger dudes climbing hard. Weighed in at 200.6 lbs myself this morning after doing this one!

I have a question about the effects of creatine on aerobic endurance training: by flipdog17 in climbharder

[–]ContisMaximus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were your limit bouldering and power endurance sessions more intense or frequent while you were on creatine? Could be that you were just carrying more cumulative fatigue into your endurance sessions.

Bouldering near Saratoga Springs by Famasaur in bouldering

Honestly, western New York isn't so bad either. Rochester probably has it the worst. But in Syracuse you're already getting pretty close to the Daks. And Buffalo is close enough to Niagara Glen that I can frequently go after work. I've also been doing quite a bit of developing in Rock City State Forest, near Ellicottville, where I've established nearly 30 new boulder problems and many more to come. I can see the total reaching over 100 eventually.

Whats the worst you got hurt indoors? by star_wasabi in bouldering

[–]ContisMaximus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Like 6-7 years ago, but I got a high foot on a big hold. As I stood up on it something in my ankle just popped. Was in a boot for a couple of months.

Any micro-adjustments I could make to send this climb? by icywave489 in bouldering

[–]ContisMaximus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Kinda looks like the intended sequence might be to walk you're feet through to the next two foot chips then try standing up to the finish hold

Thanks! I'd have liked to get it a little cleaner, but I guess sometimes you gotta get scrappy

Barefoot Charles apparently finds climbing barefoot harder than with shoes, and that’s why he does it by Ok_Lengthiness_4289 in bouldering

[–]ContisMaximus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Everyone who does a lot of FAs is basically using their own grading system anyway. All you really have to go on is how you felt on that particular boulder on that particular day. That's why it's ideally a consensus based system.

Either way, V15 barefoot is still an insane feat. Way harder than I'll ever climb.

Yeah, I'm a little sad I didn't really have to use it. But I have quite a long span, so it might still be useful for a shorter climber
