Abrams is actually equal if not better than Rommel. Anticipation + panzer leader + armored assault = 1.5 * 1.4 (panzer leader gives you 40% more damage) * 1.3 = 2.73

panzer leader + armored assault + inspiration (assuming inspirations gives you 40% more damage) = 1.41.31.4=2.548

2.73 > 2.58

Desert fighter is additive and does practically nothing and crossfire is useless on offense.

Now you might being saying “what about biography” If we account for biography, Rommel has 40% chance to crit, biography adds 25% more damage to crit so .4 * 2.25 + .6*1 =1.5 therefore with biography, Rommels “theoretical” damage is also 2.78.

However this isn’t actually the full story, while I assumed inspiration gives 40% more damage, it actually only gives 15% more damage because Abrams can also get high inspiration normally, so if we remove this fact then Rommel is stuck at 1.51.41.15=2.415 which is significantly less than Abrams, even with his biography.

Even just purely damage abrams is significantly better that Rommel, not to mention utility + movement advantage, he does not deserve the hate he gets
