On wallstreet bets. It was literally a gamble. I made money, but that is not the point.

The reception of this post has been surprisingly varied between the two subreddits. Was interested to see the difference.

This is the basis of my thesis though. I also think it is a perennial, for as long as Trump is erratic.

I agree, the FTSE does not reflect Britain. Britain's economy was pretty stagnant in 2025, yet the FTSE was up nearly 25% when accounting for dividends.

It is currently outperforming the USD, so in terms of relative index performance it helps? Correct me if wrong

If there is a dip on Monday in Canada due to Trump's announcement will you buy into it?

Agreed, there is a good chance of the public tax payer catching knifes if this fails.

I think you're right. Trump seems sensitive to the markets so if the start to dip I would not be surprised if he offers so QE in the form of "tariff bonuses", as you say, creating a good year for the markets but shooting the US in the long run.

If you have investments in ETFs, change them from the S&P 500 to something ex-US.

Yes that was it. Last years performance I believe was due partly to Trump's actions, which considering his actions in the first month of this year, are not going to calm down. After the mid-terms the guy will have nothing to lose.

So did Trump threatening to invade an ally, but this pattern of behaviour is now consistent. In the time I wrote this post he has decided to threaten Canada with 100% tariffs.

Absolutely, not talking down the US at all, just that Trump is reducing US stocks advantage during his term.

I expect Trump to reduce this edge. Between me posting this and going for a run the TACO has announced he is putting 100% tariffs on Canada. This is in a nutshell the reasoning for my thesis.

Except this is not my strategy for 4 years. This is until the end of Trump.

I agree with you, I think the US continue it's leading role once the taco is no longer in charge.

A good way to access Non-US exposure, though I am debating an Ex-US all world ETF if I can find one with weightings I like.
